Bain Capitol closing Plant in Freeport IL Romney is shareholder

Freeport, Ill. —

What started as a modest protest of Bain Capital’s role in the ongoing layoffs at the Freeport Sensata plant may eventually grow into a full-fledged grass-roots effort to give displaced local workers a voice.
Cheryl Randecker of Freeport is one of the Sensata workers who organized the recent Bain Capital protest, which took place outside the Sensata Technologies/Honeywell plant in Freeport this past Monday.
Randecker is hoping to team up with her fellow workers and other like-minded citizens to continue to protest the layoffs and to urge the passage of federal legislation that would curb the outsourcing of U.S. jobs. This legislation, known as the Bring Jobs Home Act, is currently being debated in Congress.
“Somebody has to take a stand here,” said Randecker, an Associate Production Level 2 employee at the local Sensata plant. “We need jobs with benefits. The companies need to stop being so greedy and look out for the people.”
Randecker is one of an estimated 170 local Sensata employees who will be laid off by the end of this year.
In early 2011, Sensata announced it would be closing its local plant by the end of 2012, and relocating the jobs there to a plant in China. Normal operations will continue at the Freeport plant until then, but roughly 170 jobs are being phased out gradually. Sensata is a maker of sensors and controls that are used in aircraft, automobiles, and electric motors.
Bain Capital Protest
Recently, it was revealed that Sensata is owned by Bain Capital, the private equity firm that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney helped start. On Monday, June 18, while Romney was campaigning in Wisconsin, Randecker and over a dozen of her fellow workers staged a protest urging Romney to visit Freeport to see firsthand how companies are “killing jobs and sending them overseas,” states a news release from Stand Up! Chicago, a labor coalition that supports Randecker’s cause.
Randecker said her group may hold additional protests in the future and is working to urge Congress to pass the Bring Jobs Home Act. This legislation would give eligible firms a tax credit to relocate outsourced jobs back to the U.S.
“With the people backing up our issue with Sensata, we’re hoping it will snowball,” Randecker said. “It might be too late for me and my job, but not for my kids.”
Randecker, a single parent, said she plans to return to college and get a degree. She has worked for Honeywell and Sensata for a combined total of 33 years.
Sensata officials were unavailable for comment for this story.

You guys listen to much to the leftist media propaganda. My job and many others were saved because of these type of investments. The goal is to make a company viable to be profitable again. If they can they will if they can't they will save the company as much money as possible in shutting it down because unlike our government it is illegal to spend more money than you take in--what a novel concept--every business and person has to do that but not our federal government. DO you libs not understand basic economics--That is why we need Romney instead of Obama--Romney Understand simple principles of solvency which seems to elude the left and Obama!Keep listening to the leftist propaganda media and we will all be like CUBA!

Yeah, I guess Honeywell, a fortune 100 Company, must have been really struggling to stay afloat that's why Bain bought the sensor section and shipped it to China to sell back to Honeywell at a discounted cost, making both companies more money and giving less people in the US jobs. Makes TONS of sense! Ha!

You people need to wake up, neither guy is stopping this type of thing from happening. Free Trade agreements will take your job to a different country someday and both the Dems and Reps are for it.

The thing is Romney actually has a plan to bring jobs back but you would not know that by listening to the leftist propaganda media as you probably know nothing how Obama lied about Benghazi or how he would not send in help for the people asking for help!

You listen to much to the leftist propaganda media. Romney had the last twenty years of tax returns opened and revealed that he paid taxes and the percentage that he paid was revealed. Just like you probably didn't know Obama is guilty of lying to the american people about Benghazi and that he refused them help and that there was arms involved in trade with Turkey!

while he was there, actively participating in the company...he had a 78 percent success rate in saving businesses that were bankrupt or near bankrupt...some companies fail, and to insinuate that he stripped all companies and sent all jobs overseas is complete bogus....btw, how many green industries did Obama save?...the answer is NONE and it cost us taxpayers over 900 million dollars for his administration's largesse. How many independent car dealers did this administration put out of work? (bet you thought I forgot that, huh?). How many people are not employed right now to work on the Keystone Pipeline?

that's a lie!! There are currently over 300 different pipelines criss crossing the border between the United States and Canada...the aquafir issue was resolved several months ago...the pipelines planned route was altered...there is more to Keystone than just oil from Canada as well...the pipeline would also incorporate domestic oil being transported from such states as North Dakota as well...we are the number two state in oil production right now...just in case you don't know...

The Keystone would be one of the largest above ground pipelines in the US...going straight through Tornado Ally. Genius idea! The majority of the steel pipeline will come from China and India not the US and the workers hired to build the pipeline will be out of a job in 3 yrs. North Dakota is living it up right now. Research the different oil booms across America. Then realize your boom is fleeting.
  • Bob, th... TruthJu... 2012/10/14 13:59:12
    Bob, the reasonable one
You are full of crap....it's not all above ground, hundreds of miles of it are safely underground in my state!! Some parts of it are above ground...and the problem wasn't tornado alley (nice try) the problem was in Nebraska where it would pass through an aqua fir (that's the original bitch about the pipeline), Nebraska made sure that the pipeline's route was changed so that is no longer the major complaint....now you are making up an illusionary problem with tornadoes....

I guess you would rather transport oil by railroad and trucks...how economical is that in the long run?....the answer is that it is not...

You just shoved your own argument down the drain. "Not all above ground" Tornado Alley is not something I just made up! LOL! There is a very real threat of tornados. Not only that, metal corrodes and spills happen. Would I like to see it get shipped via truck or train? Yes, this would offer more jobs over a much longer time than building an unsafe pipeline. I know the oil industry can handle this added cost and you know it too.
  • Bob, th... TruthJu... 2012/10/14 14:13:13

pipeline in Alaska is still doing it's job...weather is pretty severe up there....and you originally stated that it was all above ground...come to N.D. and you will see that it is underground....

so you support inefficiency all in the cause of employment numbers? That's the problem with you LWingers

The oil industry doesn't pay for inefficiency...we as consumers pay the high price of transport in the amount we pay at the pump....

the pipeline pig is used to detect leaks...and yes the Alaskan pipeline has leaked, and it has been repaired on a scheduled basis....it's called maintenance...every man-made construction needs/requires maintenance or it will fail....that goes with the house you are living in, for crying out loud...

Exactly! So you are smarter than the average repub or dem. Now how many times do you think these oil companies run these through the pipes? You do know they can and do adjust the sensativity to these pigs to prevent shut down because it's more cost effective to clean up a spill than to shut the pipeline down for the pig and the repairs. They've done it before they will do it again. You want that for your state or any state? I know I don't

Your kidding right? Do you know what a Pipeline Pig is? You think the Alaskian pipeline doesn't leak? I have no desire to go to N. Dakota esp this time of year, maybe next summer I'll swing up there. As far as the oil companies not supporting inefficiencies, that must be why they are building refineries left and right to decrease the price of oil to the American people, because that's what efficient companies would do right?

    Bob, the reasonable one
If you bothered to know that the pipeline serves many purposes..the canadian oil serves one purpose and that is to refine and export...N.D. oil is domestic and export...all pipelines serve a purpose in reducing our dependence on outside importing....just as Alaskan oil is exported to Japan....yea, I'm well aware of the issues....btw, the main reason the Libs were against oil drilling in a god-forsaken federal reserve in Alaska was that it would have taken years to actually start receiving oil....that was almost 12 years ago....the dems didn't have an energy plan then, they don't have one now...and never will
  • Mel Bob, th... 2012/10/15 02:44:36

Bo it does not. WE get none of the oil, and the environment hazards and riskes do not justify it's existence You still have presented NO dicymentation for an official source that says it will. Name one govt. study that says it will.
  • Bob, th... Mel 2012/10/15 09:50:31

    you just lied...nuff said

you have provided nothing but a twisted opinion supported by lies. The Dems still have no energy plan and are still obstructionists to any energy plan. They objected to off-shore wind generators, they object to the construction of refineries, they object to off-shore drilling, they object to drilling on public lands. They object to pipelines being constructed to bring oil to refineries....tell me what energy plan do "you" support?
