Babes in debt land: end of the road?

We hear much about our national debt in the news. Who really wants to
listen to that stuff? Our favorite sitcom is coming on the tube. Yes,
we’ve heard how bad things are. But we don’t see the bread lines (or the
“migrant mothers”) we associate with the Great Depression. So things
can’t really be that bad. Of course Lyndon Johnson replaced the bread
lines with food stamps and government programs. But no one is starving.
Hey, this is America. Things like that just don’t happen here anymore.
Our government protects us from stuff like that.

Or does it? Does government protect us, or set us up? Can government protect us much longer, even if you grant the premise that it means well?

Are we at the end of the road? Or can we kick the can a little farther?

Ben Frankin was right. People should be UNcomfortable in their poverty. They SHOULD feel like charity cases because they ARE!!! What the government wants LESS of they tax, what they want MORE of they subsidise. Now when it comes to people living on the dole, is that a subsidy? You bett your sweet biffy it is!! And if we want it to stop we go back to paper foodstamps (the ones that were embarrassing to use), we go back to gov cheese and OBVIOUS benefits. We make them UNCOMFORTABLE.

Now please also rmember that Franklin himself started the first public charity hospital, the first public schools. HE did great things to help the poor. And to help them help themselves.

I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.
On the Price of Corn and Management of the Poor[5] (29 November 1766).

And kick Maobama's ass too, since he's the reason for this mess. But the can won't be kicked much farther if we don't get rid of him this November. America as a free country will cease to exist.

WELL IF ONE USES "COMMON SENSE """". and does some economics & a little simple checkbook budgetting here ,,one could decifer that the govt. has pushed the masses & people into a position of dependency on ones govt .

therefore with little other avenues for support or sustanance ,,therefore what are we the people gonna do ....the govt is supposed to be there for a "safety net" NOT SUSTANANCE !!

now as a people & nation are we at the end of the road .... some of our leaders still think everything is fine ...."immagine that ""??

will the problem fix it's self ?

is this govt . able to continue the current path ?

how many leaders (factions ) have made these "empty promisses " that they can fix everything .?

OBAMA isnt the only one ...."to be fair " repubs are for the capatalists ( big businesses ) and the dems are to protect the people ,,,,there has to be a balance ( as in the lady with the scale ) & blindfold """

then again I CALL FOR PEOPLE TO USE COMMON SENSE ..
.AND DECIFER THE EVIDENCE ! or listen to the factions for thier next lie and continue down the road ...right off the cliff !

I thought it interesting that welfare recipients receive almost as much (in some cases more) than entry level positions.
In 40 states it pays more than an $8.00/hr job.
In nine states more than a first year teacher.
In 47 states it pays more than a janitor.
In the 6 most generous states, benefits exceed the entry-level salary for a computer programmer.

Job? We don't need no stinkin' job.

All money is debt. It is a promise to make good on an obligation in the future. Real wealth is tangible assets like land, energy and fresh water. When you look at the big picture, civilization has been running in the red for centuries. When the bills come due, wewill have squanderedthe resources we need to repay them. Infinite growth on a finite planet is an elaborate ponzi scheme. Capitalism is liquidating the real wealth of future generations and destroying our ability to survive the next century. This is the real debt we should be worrying about, not the fictitious paper debt being held by the fraudulent banksters.

Debt is debt. Could your household live like that? Have you seen how much real wealth us Americans have lost under Obama? Capitalism is a wealth creator, everybody wins. Government can only redistribute wealth, it can't create it. If you want to see land abuse, look no further than the country that holds most of our debt. If free markets could be free, a lot more people could find jobs.

No, your assumptions about how the economy works are wrong. Financial markets exist to convert wealth into debt. Financial assets that are created are just somebody else's debt. No net wealth is created. Only by putting people back to work in a sustainable economy can we create true wealth, without liquidating our natural resources.

That's funny, I use financial markets to turn wealth into more wealth. As far as banking goes, you are correct. And it's also voluntary. You have the choice not to bury yourself in debt. But overall, manufacturing, services, and JOBS are created by the free market. And the wealth created is not done so by taking away from others.

It's all phony wealth. That's what you don't understand. The wealth you think you created is just someone else's debt. I participate too, because I would rather be a winner than a loser. But I don't pretend that I created any of the wealth in my account. It is a ponzi scheme.

No, the wealth I create is not taken from someone else. You don't understand that created wealth DOES NOT mean it's taken from someone else. That's socialism. If I grow and sell a field of corn, who is that taking away from? If I open a car repair shop and run it successfully, create a few jobs, who is that taking away from?

People who believe that the government should give them everything are fools that don't realize that when that same government gives them everything they can also take everything away too. I'd rather be as self sufficient as I can be and be responsible for myself and my family, that's the American way.

We already have a Second Amendment, you do live in the United States don't you, you know we have a Constitution too. Tyrants are the ones the Second Amendment was written to protect us from, a government out of control. It will continue to work unless Americans are foolish enough to turn in their guns.
  • Warren ... none 2012/06/18 03:20:47

Your missing the point. The government is not the only one who wants to take your weapons away. And without a government the Constitution does not exist. So self sufficiency is a delusion. We all depend on the government.

The US debt alone is if taking all the derivatives and promises to pay into account. It is over 164 Quadrillion dollars! There is not enough money in the world to service the interest payment on this sort of debt. Besides it is all fake money anyways. The people who are getting the interest never had to use their own income. They just created it out of thin air. They are getting something for nothing.

I recall the Civil rights movement. This time they won't be so hesitant to use force.
Homeland security just bought 450 million rounds of hollow point ammunition . Homeland security didn't exist in the civil rights era . Fema concentration camps weren't developed to be up and running with 72 hours notice. Fema just bought several million MRE's to feed the prisoners of the Fema concentration camps.

Civil rights movement was 50 years ago , This is what the do today . Drones and Armed helicopters patrolling Chicago in advance of the Nato summit .

The mastorbatory idea that Government can continue barrowing, taxing and spending should be bbalanced by knowledge of the fiscal conflict happening in European countries such as Greece, Spain and Italy. For decades these Socialist Utopias tax at high levels, barrowed from other countries, including each other, and spent money like beer through a Frat party to give their citizens an un precidented level of comfort.

Social-welfare spending kept an estimated 15-25% of their respective populations quite in spite of their perpetual status of being un-employed multi-generationaly. The unheard of ability for people to retire at 50-55 years of age without being personaly wealthy or having planned for personal needs, because Government would get the means from somewhere. Socialized Medicine was there for all, so long as you have time to wait in line, because Government would always be able to get the money, somewhere.

European countrys have borrowed from all over, including China and that bastion of evil, the USA.

But now, the USA is too far in debt to bail Greece again. Or Spain or Italy. Because We owe too much to the Chinese and other intities.

Now the Chinese are saying they will be facing bad times fiscaly if Europeans and Americans can't pay their bill or buy Chinese products.

The fantasy is over, kids. Time to clean yourselves up.
