A certain amount of socialism is essential for a stable society. It would be so much more productive if conservatives would accept that and debate the actual issues, instead of whining about their infantile strawman arguments.

Pure communism is corrosive and breeds abuse and inefficiency.
Pure capitalism is equally corrosive and breeds the same sort of abuse by different people, and a different sort of inefficiency.

In the real world, a balance between the two is needed, and we need to constantly bicker over where to draw the lines----instead of pretending that anyone who holds a different view is fundamentally stupid and/or ignorant.

Possibly one of the stupidest things I have viewed on here. Melly on a personal level I am disappointed that you would post such asinine nonsense making light of a terrible situation in Somalia. Good bye

To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.- Thomas Jefferson

Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government.-JM

I guess they just don't understand the real difference between the Least amount of Government and NO Government at all? Can anyone really be that damn stupid? The least amount of Government there is,the more personal freedoms we have as well! And yet unless someone owns the beach itself, it's still open to the public anyway. Unless a Socialist or communist Government tells you otherwise that is.

I'm totally OK with socialism as long as it's voluntary, as in anarcho-socialism or syndicalism. In this way, I don't think socialism and capitalism are really mutually-exclusive, since they could both exist in a stateless society; but unfortunately, both economic systems have traditionally relied on coercive governments to implement them.

LOL not too badly done dead wrong, but not bad. Government is needed conservatives and libertarians know this. The socialism issue is when government takes on a role that is not needed or is in fact prohibited by the Constitution from doing.

Even though it is true that it takes a little socialism, just as much as all the other ism's out there to make a Free Country function. It is a scourge if it gets to be full blown. Or turns to Communism which many would embrace. But I also fully agree with the top opinion. Very well thought out.

a very fine line in a ideal society ,,, capatolism = free market interprise, individual wealth, pay taxes ,

socialism =, govt intervention , social security ( we all pay in to assist when to old to work ) and for medical care etc...disability "weither mental or physical " ....
no ownership of personal property , reliant on government for everything,,, but no freedoms , liberties , rights ,
the military is a form of socialism ,own nothing ,do as your told ,allegance to country & leadership ....

or a fine line between both ............

but in these trying time when unemployment is so high , jobs lowpaying at best , reliance on social services at all time high ,,,,what ya gonna do .......?

the leaders sure dont know what to do .....there totally lost ,,but dont want to admit it ! that would create a chaos ......so keep the propaganda streaming .......promisses flowing ........people confused ......

suppose it's all what ya believe is best ........should be an individual decision ,,,,not any more !

Using Somalia as a political joke? Wow - that's uh, pretty high caliber stuff, eh?

Mankind can achieve so much more than mere equal misery and the slavery of socialism.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom--go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!"
    ~Samuel Adams (August 1776)

I choose liberty over artificial comeuppance.

One of the problems with the US and it's economy is that it is too capitalistic.A society cannot function with the I have mine, screw you attitude.Corporations have that attitude and do not give a damn about the citizens, just profit. The US desperately needs a good influx of socialism just to get on it's feet.

"Liberalism is not Socialism, and never will be".
"Liberalism has its own history and its own tradition.
Socialism has its own formulas and its own aims.
Socialism seeks to pull down wealth; Liberalism seeks to raise up poverty.
Socialism would destroy private interests; Liberalism would preserve private interests in the only way in which they can be safely and justly preserved, namely, by reconciling them with public right. Socialism would kill enterprise; Liberalism would rescue enterprise from the trammels of privilege and preference.
Socialism assails the pre-eminence of the individual; Liberalism seeks, and shall seek more in the future, to build up a minimum standard for the mass.
Socialism exalts the rule; Liberalism exalts the man.
Socialism attacks capital; Liberalism attacks monopoly.
These are the great distinctions which I draw, and which, I think, you will think I am right in drawing at this election between our philosophies and our ideals. Don't think that Liberalism is a faith that is played out; that it is a philosophy to which there is no expanding future. As long as the world rolls round Liberalism will have its part to play - a grand, beneficent, and ameliorating part to play - in relation to men and States".

    -WINSTON CHURCHILL-May 4, 1908. Kinnaird Hall, Dundee
