Average MPS Teacher Compensation Tops $100k/year

I guess those unions know how to squeeze the taxpayers for a job that is only 9 months, with paid holidays etc.

WTF !?!?!?!?!?? please excuse my language but I drive a trk. trailer loading and unloading heavy equpt. each & every day, in all weather conditions where the piece of equpt. could come off the trailer roll over and kill either myself or someone elst, plus I have wide loads on and drive our interstate systems. I don't get that kind of a benefit package, where the hell do these leaches get off???? scum bags..

Maybe I should teach English in Wisconsin, as I actually do my job. apx $700 a month is about middle class here in China so I'm not complaining. In fact, it's the first time I've lived a middle class income life since striking out on my own at the ripe old age of "I-know-more-than-everyone-else" 17.

That would be OK, if the students were all on the NHS and graduating with honors. With no competiton, many teachers just do their duty, or job. Ho hum - get through the day. Granted, there are some very talented teachers out there and they deserve decent compensation. A merit system would be appropriate, provided the teachers don't do as they did in Atlanta.

I don't know what they did in Atlanta..but I'll tell you what happened in Savannah. My granddaughters were living on Hunter Army Air Field and were bussed off to a public school. The school was in the heart of the ghetto. Armed police on duty at the school. Now one of the teachers actually spoke to the students in Ebonomics! A White teacher, talkin' ghetto trash! He be kickin it wid da homies. One teacher, waiting for her retirement, use to fall asleep in class! There are all kinds of stories like that...not to mention how they were pushing obama to the kids!

That is more sad, than it is funny. The Atlanta Public School System (APS) teachers changed test scores to allow kids to score better than they were capable. I know of one APS teacher, who taught her kids how to steal. Not even out of elementary school and they all had criminal records. She said they were stupid .... to get caught. Oh, yes, she is still teaching.

Government workers are over paid and underworked. In my opinion, as an academic student and a student of life, I have found that most educators are educated way beyond their intelligence. Demonic Rat Hunter said it best, their pay should be bassed on merit and not longevity.

No wonder WI is going broke. Seems they swallowed the "Poor under paid Teacher" line a bit to long.

What exactly are these teachers paid for? I know, some are good, but when it comes down to it, they are teaching for the government, not "We the People". Yet, where is their pay and all the comensation coming from? Yep, "We the People". So, as far as I'm concerned, they are just pressing the tax payers for more, not the government. Between them, the bailouts, the stimulus and whatever else the government thinks it can squeeze from a turnip, "We the People" are screwed.

This report forgot to mention a Vacation period far exceeding any Public sector job! How many days off for Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving & every State and National holiday???

I truly do not wish to be trashing any teachers, they have a job that must be one of the most Important and least appreciated by so, so many in this country. I have the utmost respect for so many of them and the dedication that they have to their profession. We do indeed put our childrens' welfare into their hands.

I was simply upset these past days when I saw some of those teachers demonstrating out in the middle of all those "hateful" Union people telling us just how dedicated they are??? Well, I had to step back and say, "NO, you're not!" "The ones who dedicated are in the classrooms doing the job they promised to do, you're just in this business for yourselves."

Read a report in the paper this morning that shows the AVERAGE salary and benefits for the Madison area school teacher is over $100,000 per year. While the AVERAGE family income for that area is only around $50,000..... again, that's FAMILY.

Not that the Governor is trying to cut their pay in half, just by a few percent increase in medical and a very low increase into their pensions.

it is true, they are not dedicated or else they wouldnt be there. They and their unions are about greed. They have become accustomed to living better than most of us but they still wish for US to sacrifice so that they may continue to live better.

It isn't fair to factor in the fringe benefits unless these are in the form of taxable compensation. Public systems must offer benefits to be competitive with the private sector jobs. But, if the actual salaries were 100K, indeed that would be excessive.

Then the government should include fringe benfits taxable income. The government deems it necessary to now include your payments for health care as taxable income.

it is appropriate to consider exactly what is costs to employ them. Those benefits have costs

It is not only the salary and huge benefits but all public workers become multi-millionaires at retirement through their fraudulent pension system...we have a $6.7 Trillion massively bloated operation in the public sector - federal. state and local - includes education, police, fire, public works, politicians, etc... there is a need for a $2 Trillion cut and reform on the pension side saving another $1.5 Trillion so all the present budget cutting and hysterics are nothing but a ploy around the edges until you hear the politicians cutting their compensation and all public sector compensation ...you have not resolved the American economic cancer...

The pay scale of these teachers is shocking!! This cannot stay this way and be sustainable to any govt. of our states... We must correct this immediately...

Considering that their Graduation rates are so low cut they're pay and bennies by 1/3 and then let them try to earn superior perfomance pay/bonus.
