Back in February, we told you about an atheist family in Massachusetts that has been engaged in a legal battle to have “under God” removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. In a press release sent out on Monday morning, the American Humanist Association announced that the Middlesex Superior Court ruled against the family. According to the statement, the atheist parents are already planning an appeal.

Rather than tackling the federal government, the family — led by the AHA — went after the state’s use of “under God,” claiming that it was a violation of the Massachusetts constitution.

In 1954 I was just a little kid when the "Knights of Columbus" had "Under God" added to the pledge. I do remember those years in the 50's of everyone fearing the soviet empire and how it was every good christians duty to fight communism. Every day we started class by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, then later it was changed to weekly. Today I don't think it is part of many school programs.

So for me I suppose the question is what was wrong with the original pledge? You know, the traditional "Pledge of Allegiance" before that highly religious special interest group "Knights of Columbus" lobbied congress to add "Under God" to our pledge.

I think they wanted the pledge reverted to what it was before 1954 when that catholic religious group succeeded in having Under God added by congress.

I don't know about that, but then perhaps you are an unwavering supporter of the Catholic Church. I for one (among many) have no respect for the pope and that evil empire or those groups under Vatican control.

The Catholic Church doesn't need people like me to make it look bad, it does a fine job of that all by itself. Whether we're talking about protecting its employees that rape little boys, or it's history of supporting the NAZI attempt at extermination of the jews. Its clear that evil empire will have its ignorant supporters, "LIKE YOU!!!"

Well you are the one that started with "stupid" and then added "hate", and now added profanity to your defense of the evil empire. As for facts, less than 1% of the NAZIs participated in killing the jews but 100% of the priests that raped boys were PROTECTED by the Catholic Church (aka: evil empire).

But I stated why I don't think changing the pledge back to it's original wording is in itself a bad idea. Your only contribution was to attack,...

Pity. Didn't it only get put in about 50 years ago? It can just as easily be taken out again, and should be. The US isn't some backward Middle Eastern theocracy and therefore shouldn't have overtly religious slogans supported by the State.
