Atheist Bullies Shut Down Christmas Displays...

Once again, atheists have shut down the First Amendment rights of Christians and Jews with the blessings of a federal court.

For
60 years, the city of Santa Monica, California, has allowed private
Nativity and Hanukkah displays in its Palisades Park, which overlooks
the ocean and the famed Santa Monica Pier.

But as has happened in
so many other places, a tradition enjoyed by an entire community that
was just intended to make the world a nicer place drew the attention of a
mean-spirited atheist with his nose out of joint because he hates
Christians and Christmas.

Atheist Damon Vix wasn’t content with
just putting up his protest booth three years ago. Last year, he
recruited a bunch of other atheists to flood the city with applications,
packing what was supposed to be a fair lottery.

The atheists
managed to steal 18 of the 21 spaces, leaving only three for Christian
and Jewish groups. They only actually used half of the spaces, leaving
the others empty. The ones they did use were filled with signs and
displays insulting people who believe in God, including one featuring
Richard Dawkins’ “Flying Spaghetti Monster.”

Rather than step in
and do something to preserve a community tradition, Santa Monica city
officials this year chickened out and just banned all holiday booths in
the park.

A federal judge this week rejected the request by the
Santa Monica Nativity Scenes Committee to allow the display this year
while its lawsuit against the city proceeded. The judge ruled that the
city can bar Christian groups from putting up the Nativity displays in
the park and that the city had provided other avenues for religious
expression.

The city claimed that it wasn’t shutting down the
displays because of the religious dispute, but because of growing costs.
Yet, it still allows displays elsewhere in the city. The opening of the
city’s other parks to displays with permits was just an effort by the
city to appear blameless in all of this, and it worked.

But
Palisades Park is the prime spot for community groups, providing
visibility on one of the city’s main thoroughfares and on the Pacific
Coast Highway, as well as from the beach and pier. It’s sort of like if
the city of New York decided there could be no Christmas tree in
Rockefeller Center, but offered a spot at a neighborhood park 10 blocks
away instead.

“Atheists won this one, and they will always win unless
we get courts to understand how the game is played and this is a game
that was played very successfully and they knew it,” said attorney
William Becker, who compared the city to Pontius Pilate.

Vix, the
troublemaker who started all the problems, said, “So many people don’t
understand atheists. If you read the signs we put up, one said, ‘Love is
all around you.’ That’s really a better understanding of who most
atheists are.”

That statement might be less laughable if atheists
weren’t perpetually trying to sue Christians into oblivion with the
excuse that they are “offended.”

By hiding behind the law and
claiming not to be religious, atheists have made serious inroads through
the courts toward the ultimate goal of keeping Christians and Jews from
participating in public life.

With the liberal interpretation of
church-state separation — a concept not found in the Constitution — the
courts are effectively installing a state religion in violation of the
First Amendment.

As more and more of our Western heritage is swept
aside by the courts, one day the atheist state religion will have to
reckon with the power of Islam. On that day, the atheists may long for a
little Christmas and Hanukkah.

You!

This land as they claim that is so beautiful and free is dwendling away because of people that think they can change beliefs, freedom of speech along with other shi*. Its not the land of the free and home to the beautiful anymore, its the land of "watch your words" and "can we still do this or will we be arrested?"

Atheists who are adult and don't deliberately go about causing issues can believe who or what they choose. It is usually the mean-spirited, bored, rude, little prankster troll children on SH who constantly roam around whinning, bitching, belly-aching and moaning for some conservative to change their nasty-ass diapers that are the annoying in society!

This isn't just the atheists and bullies shutting down Christmas. It is far bigger than that and being presented as politically correct. Just the other day I was in Disney and watched the "Christmas" celebration of the lighting of Cinderella's castle. Almost every sentence spoken referred to "Holiday" and never once was the word Christmas used. I was deeply saddened to see that even Disney is part of this erasing of Christmas. I know, one thing for sure, Disney has lost my entire family as customers.

You know, I don't know why some people get off doing stuff like that. I identify myself as an atheist or agnostic now, but religious public and or private ceremonies and celebrations, holidays and such don't offend me, and I don't believe that they offend the people making all the trouble. I don't know what motivates people like that to do what they do. They seem to take great joy in denying others to worship as they would. I'm fine with Christmas. I used to consider myself a Christian, and may yet again. I don't know. I'll bet you that most atheists today were raised as Christians too and didn't become non believers until they were mature adults with critical minds whereby they could see the falsehood in the Bible. Biblical scholars by-the-way will attest to the inaccuracies and outright deception in the Bible. Anyway, so where do some atheists get off trying to make trouble for the rest of us? And why don't Christians fight fire with fire? Because Christians are morally against acting like jackasses. Hell, I've celebrated Christmas all my life and plan to continue to do so, no matter what my religious beliefs morph into.

I believe the professed atheism of these agitators is just a cover for these bullying hate mongers who have a sick need to push their weight around. They wouldn't try it if they didn't sense the weak kneed constitutional illiteracy of the local authorities and judges. But they're giving a bad name to all well reasoned and respectful atheists and agnostics who value individual freedom.

The Constitution does not separate anybody's religious faith from the state. It simply doesn't establish any particular church to represent the government like the Anglican Church does in the UK. The mythological church and state separation is a deliberate misinterpretation to justify official persecution of religion.

This is stupid, nobody should be intruding on other's rights and freedoms to practice whatever religion they choose to practice. As long as that person is treating you with respect and not forcing their views on you, than you should do the same for them.I can't understand why there are Atheists who feel the need to behave like religious fanatics and force their views on others by committing acts such as this.

I'm atheist and most other atheists like me do not try to spread atheism, we know you don't care anyway. Just like when people tell me "You will find God one day", I just say "maybe" and change the subject. We want you to see the light, you want us to see the light, they want us to see the light, but we're all set in our ways. BTW that ridiculous flying spaghetti monster BS has nothing to do with Richard Dawkins.

Personally after reading several of these posts and from other personal experience, Christians are the most intolerable to other religions. Those behind 9/11 did that just because they hate Americans, not because the nation is dominately Christian.

Most atheists are not like that just so you know. People like that who publicly intrude on other people's beliefs should be ashamed of themselves. I know many atheists who don't have a problem with any public displays of christianity or anything like that. But why is this in the fun and humor section?

Lady, I only believe in the natural order of things. When the order is upset, the balance is upset, I become upset. Christians, Jew's, Muslims, Hindu, Black, White, Afro-American, Catholic, Mexican, makes no difference to me. They step out of bounds, they destroy the balance that erodes society and that is an abomination. Christians, Muslims, Jews, Russian Orthodox, Catholics, Buddhist, etc. I don't care, they break the law, destroy the balance, they deserve to get arrested, like anyone else, it's the law. It's called "Disturbing the Peace" for lack of any other description. I don't care if you are a Satanist, if you infringe on the rights of others, your are breaking the law; has nothing to do with right to assembly or free speech; you are breaking the law and deserve to spend the night as the guest of the city, county or state. Everyone should have the right to assemble and express their beliefs (or non-beliefs) how ever they want. If they do it lawfully, I don't have a problem with that. AND JUST SO YOU KNOW, I DO WORRY ABOUT BIG GOVERNMENT BUT ME WORRYING ABOUT BIG GOVERNMENT HAS LITTLE OR NOTHING TO DO WITH ENTIRE POST!!!!! THIS IS PERSONAL FREEDOMS PLAIN AND SIMPLE. LOSE THOSE, WHAT DO WE HAVE LEFT? LOSING PERSONAL FREEDOMS
