At what point do We The People cease being subservient to our government, and go about reminding our government that they are subservient to us?

You hear the arguments on all sides. Democrat, Republican, Libritarian, Independent, doesn't matter when it comes to power. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and over this past century those in power have swathed themselves in laws and regulations, making it harder for We The People to fire the incompetent from their thrones and give themselves lifelong benefits, money that could be better spent on our homeless, our military, our people. They play God with the lives of their own citizens, telling us what to eat, what to think, how to live on the teat of the government while punishing those with dreams and ambitions who strive for greatness, despite the risk of failure. When laws that were put in place to prevent terrorism from entering our lands are pushed aside in exchange for votes of foreigners, when people are persecuted for their orientation of love, and all sides demonize one another rather than working together for the common good, you have a corrupt society.
But what do We The People do? We quarrel amongst ourselves, blindingly following one political party over another rather than investigating each candidate individually. We make false assumptions without proof. We continue to elect people into office based on party affiliation, simply because you don't want someone from the other side getting in. Politicians still do not have term limits, save for the President. Must we always be forced to wait until election years before we can do anything, and even then, must we always choose the 'lesser of two evils'?
This country, as it stands now, is on the brink of collapse, following the ancient civilizations of Rome, Egypt and many other dynasties that have fallen into the pages of history, never to surface again. We are led by greed and incompetence. We complain yet do you even attend the preliminaries to make your voices heard? To have a say in who becomes your candidate? We have a weak president, one who has failed us time and again, weaving lies to conceal the truth as all politicians do.
So, what is the answer? What is the solution? Vigilance and persistence. Become more involved, become more educated. Educate yourself not just on the politicians running, but also how the effects of policies have on the country as a whole. Strip away party affiliation and look through the eyes of individualism. Never be a sheep to any one group or person, for no matter how well-spoken or well-liked a man is, their hearts can still be black as coal, and their charisma a weapon to keep your mind in chains. Whoever you choose, keep track of what they do, how they perform and what effects they have on the country and on other countries. Push for term limits. And when a politician flip-flops on issues, then raise that red flag and call them out on it and be persistent about it.

None of the above, obviously. There is not going to be any "revolution" or "revolt" or uprising or shooting in the streets as in Syria or some other third world country. This
is the 21st Century and there are a half dozen and more countries in the world gaining
rapidly on the U.S. in every way. In many instances several have already passed us
in such vital areas as education, infrastructure creation, industrial development, and
job creation. Notice that each one of these rapidly developing countries has a strong
Central Government, well educated and capable, and organizing their common efforts to
achieve specific goals. Compare that to our disorganized and corrupted system where all
is up for grabs to the highest bidder, the strongest bully, the most "politically connected", and the most liked by Wall Street's brokerages and Reagan Banks as the most profitable to them.
If we survive, it will not be owing to continuation of this chaos and greed, but to a change
in our values and goals to more nearly equate with the successes we are observing in those that are taking our markets and making us the debtors. This in not the ...

If we survive, it will not be owing to continuation of this chaos and greed, but to a change
in our values and goals to more nearly equate with the successes we are observing in those that are taking our markets and making us the debtors. This in not the mid 17th Century when "frontiersmen" and the best marksmen were the leaders of the community.
We have 5% of the world's population, hardly a big number in any book. Either we learn
to compete on the playing fields of the 21st Century or we can quickly become a footnote
on the pages of forthcoming history.
There was also no upward mobility thanks to a rigid class system. If you were born at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder, the only way to the upper rungs was to kill the people who were squatting there. Nowadays, there are far less risky ways to improve your social status.
Finally, people were much more willing to risk their lives. Life was short and brutal and nobody was a stranger to violence and death. Children grew up with regular beatings from their parents and abusive teachers, and were more inclined to use violence as a solution to all problems in their later life. And of course people were less educated. It's much easier to whip a mob into a frenzy if you're dealing with simpletons.

In contrast, modern Western people live a very sheltered and comfortable life. Even the poor among us eat regular meals, and not just stale bread but MSG-enhanced high-calorie junk food that overexcites neurons and numbs the brain like a drug. Everybody but the poorest of the poor has a TV set and internet access that provide around-the-clock diversion and entertainment.
We simply have too much to lose. We're also way too domesticated to take violent action against our leaders. We've all been raised to be tolerant, compassionate and understanding. We're all educated enough to empathize with different social strata, which makes it hard to dehumanize others enough to attack them. And we believe that we, too, can be successful if we only work hard enough. No matter how bad things might get in the future, I doubt that we'll ever reach a point where people are desperate enough to start a revolution.
Our gov is getting ready for something to happen here. Their actions and purchases show us that. They know something we don't know. They obviously expect violence because they are purchasing all kinds of riot gear, training men and those armored vehicles. Oh yeah, and all those millions of hollow point bullets. Those bullets are not for target practice. The laws and EO's being passed. All puzzle pieces coming together.
