The Nation's top uniformed serviceman, General Patrick Dempsey, complains about FORMER military members working to STOP the politicians, President Obama and others, from politically capitalizing on US national security operations and secrets.
CURRENT military members must obey a long list of restrictions on partisan political activities. Reference pages 3 to 5 of the DoD directive http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/corres/pdf/134410p.pdf .
FORMER military members have no such restrictions, nor should they. These men and women spent years in the military without many of the freedoms and rights other Americans enjoy. Yes, years spent sacrificing THEIR rights to protect YOURS.
When these Patriots separate / retire from the military, their full rights and freedoms as Americans are restored. Does General Dempsey not understand this, or does he want to limit the rights and freedoms of American veterans ?

Be forewarned: On and after Sep 11, 2012 the Obamunist campaign will deluge us with media extolling Barack Obama as America's tough and indispensable national security leader.

1. He should know there's nothing he can do about it
2. If he's concerned about his troops doing that while on AD, he should limit his comments to what the AD can't and can do.
3. And if he feels he must speak out on the problem because his AD guys are confused seeing guys in military uniform in political commercials, well, explain his problem and have the good sense to acknowledge it comes from all sides in political commercials.
Did you read the news agency's story, titled "Top US general blasts ex-officers for attacking Obama" ?
Do you think I'm making this up ?
And just where am I questioning Gen Dempsey's patriotism in MY post ? Show me.
You say you saw the interview of Gen Dempsey. That would be the interview on-board a U.S. military aircraft, right? Not some subsequent damage control interview, or a damage control edited version of the interview reported in the news agency story ? I've searched for a video of the interview and came up empty. If you could provide a link, we can see what you saw.
Good that our JCS chief eventually acknowledged that retirees and former service members have a right to speak.
I don't doubt for a minute that the O-10 was bone tired on his way back from OEF-A.
Last time I heard, these retirees had not given up their Constitutional rights and I had not heard where Obama has taken away their Constitutional rights. So what is the problem.
There is no such thing as freedom of speech in the military. You only get your freedom of speech back after you retire or leave the military.
