Or did you want Jared Loughner to get the death penalty?

Not that I am in favor of the death penalty, but I am really tired of 25% of my income going to support among other things the antiquated penal/justice system in this country. I do not have the funds to support this person living in prision, being educated in prison, not suffering from hunger or a lack of shelter when I have students who are homeless, and hungry. Stop rewarding the negative and get it correct. Shoot; this creature may live to be 80 years old or older with the TLC he and others like him garner.

It costs more to put someone to death than it does to hold them for the rest of their lives.

Are you sure? I thought the fatal injection only costs about 150$.

In California the cost to keep their lifers in prison is 11.5 Million. The cost to put as many people to death as they do per year is 137 Million per year.

So yes, it does cost more overall to put someone to death than it does to keep them in prison for life.

Where is your data to support such a claim. In 2011 the average cost, nationally, to hold someone in prison was about $31,000 dollars per year. This figure includes those locked in frderal, state and local prisons. Some states spent more per prisoner, some of couse spent less on them; hence the 'average' amount spent. The rare and one time expense executition is made more expensive via the process of appeal within the judicial system. The judiciary is another governmental system that is broken. The millions no billions wasted on this broken system would be much better spent keeping teachers, police and firefighters on their jobs.

As i stated the cost for those who are waiting to be put to death is where the $$$$ add up. Eliminate the appeal process for those who are guilty of the crime like this here 'fella' and watch the cost drop.

So you want to get rid of the fairness of the legal system that ensures that innocents are not put to death just because of people like this? It has been proven that of the people put to death in the United States, nearly 45% of them (after new evidence comes out after their execution) are innocents of the crimes that they were put to death of.

So yes. Lets get rid of the Appeals Process and put more innocents to death because YOU don't like the costs.

I do't like the set-up. You can can presume that I am advocating for the elimination of the U.S. Justice system if it suits you. Changes are needed inside and outside of the court system. No more discussion please.

Loughner is, imo, mentally ill, and the plea deal gives him life in prison and avoids a very emotional and expensive trial. It was a very prudent decision by all concerned.

(Edit: and no true jewish individual would agree with putting Loughner to death. So, if you claim to be jewish, think again - and reconsider whether you are wanting revenge or justice. You are a poor example of what it is to be a Jew.)

I would have preferred an "Other" answer. I'm only okay with it if the families of his victims are okay. If this deal was made over the objections of even one family, it's wrong. He's a stone cold killer and does not deserve to be breathing air. It's a shame he wasn't killed at the site.

I can't see leaving this guy alive to brag about it. Hopefully, he'll get shanked in prison. Also, there are times that using the death penalty as a deterrent screams out for application. There are other nut jobs out there who would enjoy being "martyred" by a lifetime in prison.

Life in prison without parole is more excruciating than a painless, humane, slumber. He was not so considerate thus does not deserve to be put out of his lifetime of misery.

The only unfortunate aspect of his sentence is that he is not pretty enough to fully enjoy all of the comforts and community prison has to offer.

I'm sorry but I think its a bs excuse he just happend to be mental during the time before and the day of the shooting. Nevermind the outburst during his court appearances. I'm not a great supporter of the death pen but he knew what he was doing!

he needs to be put to death. the people he killed did not have a choice or chance to keep livingbe put to death by firing squad. let him feel what the people he shot felt in their last moments. not be kept alive for yrs at tax payers expense.

So taxpayer expense is the basis for your argument? It costs ten times more to process a death penalty conviction than to keep a murderer in prison for life.

Death is too quick for a bag of feces like him. Let him suffer for the rest of his life. But I think he should be cut off from the world...no communication with anyone, no letters, no books, no nothing. Let him rot and languish.

I advocate the death penalty, but I think it should be public, maybe if the pussies of this country actually saw what death really looks like instead of a clean embalmed body in a casket or Hollywood gore, they might think twice about their actions, even if they are crazy. But then again maybe they wouldn't...some loons want to be famous.

10-20 years of appeals just make the death penalty much too expensive to pursue. It is much, much, cheaper to house a convicted killer for life without parole.

Yes, because of the money it will save the state to prosecute him, and go thru the appeal process. The death penalty is a joke in most states in this country. It takes years before it's carried out. And there is a better chance of him dying in prison at the hands of other inmates, which I think is better.
