Jared Lee Loughner, the Arizona shooter who killed six people and wounded 13 others -- including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords -- pleaded guilty to his charges Tuesday. Loughner won't be executed because of his plea deal, but he will face a life sentence in prison without the opportunity for parole. Do you think the plea deal is fair? Or did you want Jared Loughner to get the death penalty?

I seriously doubt he will spend the rest of his life in prison. Some bleeding hart whacko will probably let him go free in a few years. Do not be surprised o hear this sick Bastard got out and killed some more innocent folks.

Now the sentence should begin with 24 hour rap in his cell, constant preaching by Pat Robertson and what ever mula can be hired, prefeably one with a really bad voice. He gets to eat food prepared by Joe Arpaio and gets sand paper for toilet paper.

The families do not serve to relive the horror, he'd be a 'celebrity' with a protracted trial, lock him up, forget about him. Keeping him safe from other inmates means LOTS of isolation. Death comes quickly, let his punishment last DECADES.

Premeditated murder (slaughter) deserves the death penalty. If a wild animal were loose on the streets and killing people, it would be put down. This human animal deserves no better consideration. Besides now the taxpayers will have to pay to feed, cloth and house him for the rest of his miserable life.

There is no possibility of a " fair" outcome to this kind of crime. Some people think the death penalty is more of a relief than punishment, others want these creeps wiped out, but either way, it can't be called fair. There is really no question that he is guilty, what did he give up? Not much as far as that goes, he nailed himself when he did what he did. He only agreed not to drag this out at the expense of the state at to the agony of the relatives and survivors. It's kind of blackmail.

As strongly as we feel that this is not the fairest punishment, this is how our wonderful justice system works. Great job on the DA's part to settle for that. Ridiculous.

Yes a society of fair laws that don't catch on when a person is mentally sick and the brain is malfunctioning. If we had a mental health system that worked this tragedy would have never happened! He deserves to be treated for his brain malfunctioning before he could get a gun and ruin his life and the life of all his victims!

What makes you so sure his brain was malfunctioning? He was functioning well enough to acquire a weapon and coldly gun down a crowd of innocent people. There's madness and then there's calculated evil.

You can still do things like plan a murder. In that sense someone might see that as 'rational' behavior. But the judgment is wonky. Almost anyone can kill - and feel justified - under certain circumstances or conditions. But what if those conditions are delusional- the products of a malfunctioning brain - not grounded in objective reality? Then any reasonable person would likely concede that this person's actions are based on seriously flawed mental processes, ergo, his moral judgment and therefore moral RESPONSIBILITY are limited. Bernie Madoff is a so-called 'white collar' criminal. He stole the life savings of hundreds of people to the tune of 50 BILLION dollars. He has no diagnosed mental illness, and he set up an elaborately planned 'long con' - a Ponzi scheme - to do it. People were financially RUINED! But people also died as a result of his greed and callous disregard. Some from things like heart attacks, a few were driven to suicide. THIS man is a true sociopath... EVIL! But he not only wasn't sentenced to death, he gets to live out his days in Club Fed. A far cry from his mansions and penthouses for sure, but in a medium security facility with more comforts and amenities than many of the rest of us can count on. Yet, no one seems to be able to muster much moral outrage that this evil guy - from the oldest motives known - pure greed and avarice - KILLED people, as surely as any gun-wielding assassin. There is a difference between evil and insanity, despite the sad and undeniable fact that the outcomes are often similar. A good argument can be made for executing sociopaths - the Bernie Madoffs of the world. But executing schizophrenics is barbaric.

You don't know if it was a legitimate diagnosis. Just about anything can be defined as paranoid schizophrenic behavior and still be deliberate.

And what's Bernie Madoff got to do with this? He didn't gun down anybody in broad daylight.

I had a brother who was hearing voices and had hallucinations that tlked out of his head and unless my father had gotten the guardianship he did from a local judge, he might have done some of the same things I read about in the newspapers cause we don't treat rationally and logically people with mental illness that are reared in the best of environments whose brains turn on them! I hope your sons are never mentally ill but from one that knows please don't think it has to do with how they were reared!

We should send a message to others who would do the same thing, by executing him. This would also save money so that we wouldn't have to foot the bill to take care of him in prison for the rest of his life. The death penalty is more economical.

Plea deals are advantageous when the guilt of a suspect is in question. They work when there are some doubtful circumstances. This man publicly came in and opened fire on innocent people and a prominent politician, who although being a Democrat, doesn't deserve to be killed or injured.
    This plea deal is bunk.
