As the old adage goes, "nothing is certain but death and taxes." And we hate to bring up bad news, but the latter part of that certainty is almost upon us. April 15 is known for nothing more than "tax day." It's the day we're all supposed to get our paperwork together, submit our documents, and only hope for a substantial amount of cash back in return. And it's around the corner.
But hey, there has to be a bright side to doing your taxes, right? Are you looking forward to a big refund? Or maybe you just like knowing that you're performing your patriotic duties as a U.S. citizen. Whatever the case, we'd love to know more about your opinion on taxes. Take our six-question Tax Survey. Hey, it's better than filling out those documents, right?

Jean 2012/03/29 23:13:15What tax refund?+7Frankly, people who get refunds are fools. The tax refund is the equivalent of allowing a store to overcharge you for your purchases, then forcing you to fill out paperwork proving you were overcharged and then waiting 6 weeks to get your money back. The goal of every wage earner should be to owe nothing and to pay nothing - this lets you use your own money during the year when you might actually need it (like to pay your mortgage, utilities or buy food) rather than giving congress and our beloved Commander in Chief an interest-free loan.

Because we have 2 kids and don't make enough to pay any taxes during the year. Thank Goddess for Earned Income Tax Credit.
They say I owed the 11 million dollars
Mr. Obama hasn't raised your taxes. In fact, depending on your income bracket, they've most likely gone down under his admin.
Don't worry tho, since the advent of the TEA Party (a group of ill informed individuals who staged nation wide rallies to protest high taxes, and non existent proposed tax increases on the middle class, during a time when their tax by % of income was the lowest since the 1950's) we don't expect enemies of the current American Government to understand tax code, or basic business math.
No, that doesn't make me happy at all. If someone steals 100 dollars from me, then decides he really doesn't need the last 20, I'm not *up* 20 dollars, but *down* 80. "Taxation" is just a dressed-up word for theft, and nothing makes theft (whether by individuals or by "government") morally acceptable.
Oh you have? Guess that money wasn't stolen from you then huh?
Taxes are how you pay for the privilege of living here, don't like them; move to Somalia.
But consequentialist arguments about theft maybe, theoretically benefiting its victims at a later date with monopolized public services do *not* address the fundamental moral argument at all. Theft, like all coercion, is wrong on principle. You have the right to your own justly-acquired property. If not - if we ever come to disregard the inviolability of property and decide that a group of ordinary individuals (in this case, the state) has a higher ownership claim to your property than you do - this gives them the authorization, not only to confiscate your money, but to tell you what you can do with your own body, mind, conscience, and reproductive freedom, as politicians of practically all points in the spectrum have done.
I don't mind *anybody* having nice roads to drive on, and I'd definitely chip in to fund them myself. I'm only asking that we don't employ force to get these kinds of things done. Roads are a highly worthwhile endeavor, and nothing so worthwhile remains devoid of voluntary investors for long.
I could point you in the direction of consequentialist critiques of public works monopolies if you're interested, but you might have already made up your mind about the subject.
Technically you do not owe any money until the end of the year after you file your tax return. So technically they keep interest on your money all year. We pay over 20K in income taxes each year. Technically, at a mere 3% interest they are ripping me off around $300 in interest every year.
Obama who promised that He would not tax seniors Social Security is now doing it
Military Disability is now Taxable too WHAT REFUND? WE ARE RIPPED OFF YEARLY BY THE CORRUPT OBAMA ADMINISTRATION AND OUR TAX DOLLARS ARE WASTED AND CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
