UN Ambassador Susan Rice has withdrawn her name from consideration for Secretary of State, saying the criticism surrounding her comments on Benghazi had become an “irresponsible distraction.”

“I am fully confident that I could serve our country ably and effectively in that role,” Rice wrote in a letter to President Obama today. “However, if nominated, I am now convinced that the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive and costly – to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities.”

Rice has been criticized by Republicans for her response to questions on the Sunday talk shows shortly after the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi killed four Americans.

Thats dumb, everybody knows, the president watched the whole thing go down live there were drones over head tapping the whole thing. It went on for 6 hours and the us military had seal teams ready to deploy 15 min away! And the president told them to stand down. The ambasider knew of his arming of the Muslim brotherhood, with 300 tons of military weaponry including surface to air missiles. Uncovered in food and supply trucks heading in to Libyan rebel forces. So he had him killed and blamed it on a u tube vidio. And lied to the public. No surprise hes backing Syria right now

Petraeus tells Congress that Susan Rice was unaware of al-Qaida ties to Benghazi
    November 16, 2012
David Petraeus, the former CIA director, told congressional hearings on Friday that he had always known a terrorist group had been involved in an attack in Benghazi that left the US ambassador and three other Americans dead.
According to reports from members of Congress who attended the closed-door hearings, Petraeus said the information had been included in the original set of talking points prepared by the CIA for the Obama administration. But he said it was removed from the one provided to the UN ambassador, Susan Rice, who used it as the basis for a series of interviews on the weekend after the killings.
Rice is among the contenders to replace Hillary Clinton as US secretary of state. In a press conference this week, Barack Obama, angrily criticised two Republican senators, John McCain and Lindsey Graham, who threatened to block her nomination if the president put her name forward.

The reason, he said, was not to tip off the group about what the US authorities knew.

Ex-CIA Chief Petraeus Questioned Over Ambassador Rice
    Nov. 16, 2012
Disgraced former CIA director Petraeus spent almost four hours in closed door hearings before the House and Senate intelligence committees this morning to testify about what he learned first-hand about the Sept. 11 attack in the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.
Democratic senators who emerged from the hearing said Petraeus' testimony supported U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice.
Rice, who could be nominated for Secretary of State by President Obama, has been accused by Republicans of trying to mislead the country by saying the attack was a spontaneous eruption rather than a failure to defend against a terrorist attack.

Susan Rice did what she felt was right for her country. She is a very smart woman that saw that continuing to be considered for SOS was preventing the President from focusing on the important issues facing the country. I hope she stay on in some capacity in the government. The three senators that shamed and blasted her should be ashamed of the way they treated her. I have been following politics for 50 years and never seen someone shamed the way she was even before she was nominated...

I'm not surprised at all. Actually, this is what I've expected. It showed one more time that those who have considered Obama as a strong stubborn pusher, who will always have his way (such a perception of Obama was quite common in the beginning of his term in the WH), have been mistaken. He never swims against the current. When he tries something and encounters a strong enough opposition, he drops it. That has happened many times during his term.

You are obviously talking about Obamacare. This case isn't so clear cut. The idea of providing healthcare insurance to all Americans has been around for ages. Obama didn't invent this concept as such. There was at the time when it was adopted, as it is still today a strong support for that concept among the Democratic base. Some of them don't like this or that in Obamacare, still they publicly support it. With all the opposition to Obamacare, the Congress and the Supreme Court didn't kill it. So, Obama didn't do it without support.

He had to bribe members of his OWN party to vote for it!! It proves you're wrong about a Marxist like o-blame-o pulling back when he meets opposition. The ACA will ruin this country. Why are so many democrat senators admitting this fact?

The 17 Democrat senators who want Obamacare (or, at least a part of it) not to go into effect, are still those who voted for it. They obviously are somehow changing their mind. Will Obama eventually give up on the ACA? I think it's not impossible.

You're right, the Marxist idea of health care has been around since Marx. No one said o-blame-o invented the idea. It was as extremely unpopular with the American majority when it was passed, as it is now. The support o-blame-o passed that $hitty law with came from extremist, far-left ideologues. NO republicans voted for it.
