"Leading water scientists have issued one of the sternest warnings yet about global food supplies, saying that the world's population may have to switch almost completely to a vegetarian diet over the next 40 years to avoid catastrophic shortages. I eat little enough animal products as it is, for personal health reasons. There are a number of excellent reasons to avoid animal products, but also good reasons to eat a bit of various animal product. I was once dairy-free, and am going to try giving it up again.
