I am for the American Principle that legitimate government is very limited, as mandated in the Constitution, and serves only to protect the equal, sovereign rights of the individual to life, liberty, property, the ownership of one's own mind and body, and the pursuit of personal happiness. I am very libertarian on domestic policies and rather conservative on most defense issues. Other foreign policy issues I am libertarian on, but not necessarily in agreement with most libertarians on, since they sometimes misapply the principles of individual rights on foreign policy issues.
In practice, I generally vote Republican since the Republicans do not commonly act derisively toward the private sector, individual rights, and the Constitution as the Democrat Socialist Party people do. Of course, many Republicans are also wrong in supporting big government. Many Republican Senators and Congressmen allow themselves to be bought off by special interests as do the Democrat Socialists, but most are bought off to a lesser degree. When the Republican is too disgusting, I vote for a Libertarian Party candidate, if one is available.
Actually I'm a libertarian. My views are socially liberal and fiscally conservative, and since a person's stance on social issues are typically what determines how they're labeled, I suppose that makes me a left-winger. I guess you could say that I'm a liberal in the more classical sense of the word.
I am so far to the right that if I take one more step I'm going to fall of the radar. Government should be almost like a shadow. Instead, it's a behemoth! I pay taxes, that's all they need to know.
Always to the right. You don't see the American Communist Party or the American Socialist Party or the Young Communist Party mixing with Conservatives do you.
GRRRRRRRRR! I meant left wing! Anyway, I'm surprised that the number of libs and cons are pretty even, considering that SH has a pretty conservative audience.
"Gun Crime?" I have never heard of a gun committing a crime!
It's so simple; As Charlton Heston said; "Here's my credo: There are no good guns, There are no bad guns. A gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a good man is no threat to anyone, except bad people [and politicians]
It is illegal for the "bad people" to own gun right now! We have over 22,000 (FBI Crime statics) different "gun laws" in the USA, we don't need more. And it sounds like a campaign slogan but it's true. If you outlaw firearms, then only the bad people will have firearms! You don't really expect the bad guys to turn in the tool of their trade do you?
In this day and age for a government to out law guns would be a death sentence for many former armed citizens.... I carry every day......
No free man shall ever be de-barred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain their right to keep and bear arms is as a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny in government. Thomas Jefferson
Don't think of it as `gun control', think of it as `victim disarmament'. If we make enough laws, we can all be criminals. The possession of arms by the people is the ultimate warrant that government governs only with the consent of the governed.
As the Founding Fathers knew well, a government that does not trust its honest, law-abiding, taxpaying citizens with the means of self-defense is not itself worthy of trust. Laws disarming honest citizens proclaim that the government is the master, not the servant, of the people.
"Probably fewer than 2% of handguns and well under 1% of all guns will ever be involved in a violent crime. Thus, the problem of criminal gun violence is concentrated within a very small subset of gun owners, indicating that gun control aimed at the general population faces a serious needle-in-the-haystack problem." Gary Kleck, "Point Blank: Handgun Violence In America"
You have a good one, it's time for me to crash,,,,
