Right to work really means right to treat employees like crap.

Unions have given us a lot. Without unions we would have the 7 day work week instead of the 40 hr. work week.

Unions were very much needed when they first started. Now they have gotten too big for their pants. Do you remember in the 80s when the ATC union called a strike, knowing that it was illegal for a federal employ go strike against the Government? President Regan gave them a choice, return to work or you are fired? A lot of Controllers lost their jobs over that one.

I remember that well. Did you remember why they went on strike? They were overworked and the chance of a disaster was increased. Every once in awhile there is an article about near misses at airports.

I agree with your right not to join a union, but where my issue lies is then why are we still legally bound to represent you? I mean the choice is not union or not it's free or pay same benefits
The way I see it if you choose not to join you are saying I am better off non union I can negotiate for myself So do it, I have faith the deference in contracts would make people choose to join

No love for Unions, was in one ONCE and they did NOTHING to help me......I don't need nor want to be in one.....they have pretty much ruined the workplace for everyone else.

Edit: They sure were happy to take MY dues tho!! lol

I'm with you. I was in the AFL-CIO in the late '60s when an auto manufacture union went on strike. The union held a special vote to rise does from $5.00 a month to $15.00 to support the strikers, only problem was it was a closed vote. (Union officials only, closed to membership)

Please check out IWW iww.org we do not play politics ($0 contributions) We do not take dues from checks directly (If you are unhappy you can go on dues strike) Our delegates are mostly shop floor and if they are not and no one can make more than those they represent

It sunds like we may be a bit more what you want

See that's the problem that needs to be addressed to save unions most people are happy with their union and bargaining unit, but the Trumkas and Sterns of the world turn it into a politicized corporation, I had hoped a lesson was learned this time They spent a fortune and a lot of time to get Obama in and what did they get? No efca no marching president none of what he promised just an insincere tweet

    You don't get it.
The public unions are obligated to pay off because taxpayers foot the bill.
When private sector unions hit the skids, America ain't gonna bail them out.
You'll get your Social Security like everyone else.

Wisconsin has experienced a 60% drop in membership since Walker took office and people were given a choice.

On Wednesday, signs in support of Walker were showing up all over California and the Mayors of San Diego & San Jose announced there would be similar initiatives on their ballots in November.

This trend is going to sweep across the USA like a wildfire.
There's already a bill in Congress for RTW established nationwide.
It will become law in 2013.

unlike you I have prepared my retirement without SS. I will have my full retirement pension in one lump sum. I know you were worried about my well being! Don't fret I will be OK! Again I am glad you find it so amusing on wishing the downfall and demise of fellow taxpayers and fellow Americans. You must be proud!

Just letting people know what's in store. At least they may have some time to prepare but if they're relying on a pension for retirement, it will be like the run on banks in 1929.

I wont be getting a pension from anyone and 'work' when I feel like it.

When I retire I will get both international and local pension, Roth IRA and some mutual funds and a little bit of gold and silver. May I ask you what is wrong with folks working for a pension? So because a person works there entire life for their pension it is OK for someone just to take it away. I think not.

"They grease their palms, donate to politicians, and grease their palms some more when they are awarded contracts." Kinda like the no bid contract awarded to Halliburton?

"There's a LOT wrong with union pigs promising the Sun, Moon & Stars and not being able to deliver later because they were never looking out for the workers to begin with."
Kinda like John Boehner and his bribes?

Halliburton .... ? Do you really want to spend 2 weeks going over all the no-bid DOD contracts that get handed out to various union shops in peace-time and especially those acquired a week after a war is declared? Tbe USA govt. doesn't make squat.... all that equipment and hardware has to come from somewhere.

C'mon.... the Boehner thing is more than a stretch and you'll notice he wasn't breaking any House rules or charged with any ethics violations. Can't say the same for the people still under investigation and those who had to give up their chairs.

Have you ever been on strike? If so how long do you need to work to get back what you lost? The only people to win in a strike are the new workers hired after the strike and the union officials who still get paid while you are on strike.

More grabbing at straws. Striking is when all else fails. Striking is not always about money. I remember a few years back I was on a job site out in the sticks and this roofing contractor was so unsafe dropping stuff from 50 in the air all the traded walked off the job until the roofing contractor was removed permanently. I tell you what you can bad mouth the Union all you want it makes no difference to me, but I know the truth. I am not just pulling Sh!t out of thin air.
  • frank Sinpac 2012/06/11 23:08:10

I am not bad mouthing unions. I am just stating facts. I glad you had a union that took a stance against an unsafe company. 90% of unions go on strike for higher wages with some type of benefits. It is obvious that you have never been on strike for 4 months.
  • Sinpac frank 2012/06/11 23:32:40

There are no reasons to go on strike when you have a negotiating committee. for the past 8 years or so when our contracts are up for renegotiating we ask for raises to offset the increase cost of insurance and medical costs. I also remember years ago our shop wanted to strike and most of us there told these people to sit down and STFU we ain't striking over a nickel. lol There are always stupid idiots that try causing trouble with in the hall.
