Maybe more than previous I might watch the GOP clown show in Tampa. Should be lots of controversy with Paul supporters, and the haterade pouring there if it's not the hurricane pouring.

Gads, that's got to be so stressful. "All" we deal with in the midwest are tornados and severe thunderstorms. While tornados can be devastating, we live deep in a valley where we have never been touched.....so far.

Not really. About this time of year, is when Tropical storms and Hurricanes make their presence known.
Lets pray that it stays that way.

I'm reading the Chris Matthews book on Kennedy, "Jack Kennedy, Elusive Hero", and he dedicates an entire chapter on this convention in his book.

It's really surprising me. I really didn't peg Chris Matthews as being a very good writer, given his bombastic style of interviewing people. You have to be able to listen in order to write with any degree of insight on a topic. I also didn't think that Chris Matthews would be able to write an entirely honest book about the man who he considered to be his hero, and the man that drew him away from his politically inclined Republican family. But his book is very honest, and it portrays Kennedy with all his flaws, in fact, I had a very hard time liking Kennedy in this book.

I know what you mean. Matthews makes my head hurt at times when he's interviewing. You want to smack him when he doesn't let others get a word in edgewise. But he is so passionate and I think his mind races so fast that he can't keep up with it.

He's kind of like a kid in that way. Being a hand in the political campaigns of Tip O'Neill and Jimmy Carter, he seems to enjoy the actual nuts and bolts of how a successful political campaign is run. Being a seasoned insider, he doesn't appreciate the superficial spin that are usually given out by candidates and their spokespeople. Quite often he's just as candid about the spin given out by the Democratic party as well.

He is biased, but given where he's coming from, he's biased to the kind of old school politics that he's most familiar with, and he tends to favor centrist candidates like Kennedy, Clinton and Obama.

He also has no problem pointing out their foibles regardless. He will criticize a Dem just as harshly as he does a Pub and that's why I find him so credible.

The first convention I ever "got into" was when I was just a kid and my dad who was a political editor on a city newspaper, tuned into the 1956 Democratic Convention where JFK ways vying for Vice President. I've been hooked ever since.

Yes I do Marlow. I have found that in order to have an understanding of where others are coming from that I have no ideological compatability with, I simply have to know 'why'.

For instance, you and I wouldn't vote the same if a gun was held to our heads, but I have found you to be articulate, thoughtful and have given me thoughts to ponder. I like that as well as you.

    So there!!

Well, when it comes right down to it, we hear a lot of puffing, snorting and hyperbole from both sides. Its just that we don't mind the hyperbole and puffing if we are of the same persuasion. lol
