“All Americans have to get ID to drive, collect public benefits, borrow library books, so why should one segment of the population be exempted? “The only reason to oppose photo ID requirements for voting is to allow voter fraud to take place.”

What things do you need a photo ID for?
These are a few I have come up with so far.....
    Driver's license ,,,,,,,,,
    Buy alcohol ,,,,,,,,,,,,
    Buy cigarettes ,,,,,,,,,,,,
    Apply for welfare ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
    Apply for food stamps ,,,,,,,,,,,,
    Cash a check ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
    Purchase a firearm ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Make any large credit card purchase ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
    Open a bank account,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
    Rent an apartment ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Be admitted to a hospital ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
    Get a marriage license ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I'm trying to figure out how having to produce an ID to vote once every couple of years, is somehow a problem, and some even claim it's "racist".
Do these people do none of the above?????? Are they living under a rock? How are they collecting food stamps or welfare if none of the other things? If they are not citizens (and don't have an ID) then they should not be voting.

A major probe by the Justice Department between 2002 and 2007 failed to prosecute a single person for going to the polls and impersonating an eligible voter, which the anti-fraud laws are supposedly designed to stop. Out of the 300 million votes cast in that period, federal prosecutors convicted only 86 people for voter fraud – and many of the cases involved immigrants and former felons who were simply unaware of their ineligibility. A much-hyped investigation in Wisconsin, meanwhile, led to the prosecution of only .0007 percent of the local electorate for alleged voter fraud. "Our democracy is under siege from an enemy so small it could be hiding anywhere," joked Stephen Colbert. A 2007 report by the Brennan Center for Justice, a leading advocate for voting rights at the New York University School of Law, quantified the problem in stark terms. "It is more likely that an individual will be struck by lightning," the report calculated, "than that he will impersonate another voter at the polls."

Indeed, between 2000 and 2007, there were 32,299 UFO sightings in the United States, 352 deaths caused by lightning, but only nine cases of voter impersonation, according to a great new infographic by Craiglist founder Craig Newmark.

In America, you are who you say you are, unless and until there is probable cause that you are committing a crime (in this case, voter fraud).

Only a big government, Constitution-trashing Republican would want to turn American elections into a 'Papers, please!' Gestapo-style national exercise.

I rarely have an ID on me, and I'm guessing I'm not alone. Would just make voting even more of an annoyance/tedious process, and would discourage people from actually trying to get involved with the nation.

You should always carry some form of ID on you....why?, because most law enforcement agencies have a legal right to detain you if you can't prove who you are. I am not talking about stopping you and asking you for papers either. Say, your in a vehicle riding and the driver gets pulled over for speeding and is discovered to have weed in his pocket. The police have the right to ask everyone in the car for an ID and while most wouldnt take you to the station for not having one they DO have the legal right to detain you until they verify your identity if the choose. I had a friend that got detained and questioned by the police because he matched the description of someone they were looking for. He was only detained about 20 minutes since he had an ID that they could check as valid proving he wasnt who they wanted, without it he would have been detained for several hours.

We have to show ID's in our state to vote and it doesnt delay the process more than a minute or two for them to look at the ID and check my name off the list.

You may feel that way, but I have had no need to carry ID with me at all times. And I probably never will.

Lack the ability to read, eh? Or you're just so dependent on your identification that you don't believe that anyone can be defined without one?
