I won't understand that, because your premise is wrong. In an increasingly globalized world, prestige is NOT nothing. It's not EVERYthing either, but it's not nothing.

You are the only person I have ever conversed with that defends the UN. You must be very lonely? I have never talked personally to anyone who doesn't think the USA should get out of the UN. I know it's not scientific, but just look at this poll: 111 to get out, 16 to remain. Those results would be common throughout any poll on the UN.

Again, that's more of a statement on who you talk to. I, by way of comparison, have spoken with many people who think that having the UN in the US is a good thing. *shrug* Just goes to show you that anecdotal "evidence" is suspect.

No, it wouldn't. Because this site has a great many extreme right wingers on it. This site is NOT an accurate cross section of America.

But it is very accurate to the beliefs of the public. I have traveled to many other countries, have many friends in State and Federal Congress, many friends in professional sports, many friends in small and corporate business and have never had one say we should support UN. I just don't hang with the hollywood elite or the liberal educators who dominate education.

And that's why you think that the ratio of people who believe as you do is so high. You completely dismiss a huge portion of the country. There are plenty Liberals and Moderates who don't agree with you.

Take your head out of the sand or Obama's ass and realize that the liberals are a very small proportion of the American public. I was in education, as my goal was originally to be an educator, I know educators and most are not as liberal as the elite educators. The majority of the elitist believe as you do, many of the others don't.

Liberals account for about 1/5 of the American population. Moderates about 2/5. Not that every one of them supports the UN, of course, but there are still going to be plenty of them. Certainly enough to give the lie to the idea that the vast majority of Americans want the UN to leave our shores.

Well Conservaties are currently 41% and you are claiming that almost 100% of the moderates are for the UN, not even 100% of the liberals are for the UN.

All I'm claiming is that hatred for, and desire for the eviction of, the UN is FAR from universal or even all that widespread.

I concede that opinion of how well the UN is doing their job is low. It doesn't necessarily follow, however, that they want the UN gone from US shores.

There may well be. But seeing as how there are around 7 billion people in the world, a few million isn't significant.

I suspect the folks in European countries know a great deal. Africa and Asia, not so much.

For better then forty years now I have been for the UN to move to a neutral location. Many of the members hate this country and I would like them accommodated by keeping them away.

Any involvement with the U.N destroys our sovereignty.
