Are you disgusted that when given the right to vote, Egypt freely elected a member of the Muslim Brotherhood?

If the election was fairly conducted, then the Egyptian people have the right to elect anyone they want. That's what free elections mean. The idea that democracy should be supported only if they make the choices WE want them to take is contrary to the very notion of free choice. I'm sure the rest of the world was horrified when the Supreme Court decided to throw out the results of the 2000 election and install George Bush as President (and of course Bush proved all of their fears justified), but I doubt any American would have supported a European invasion to depose Bush and restore the actual elected leader of the country.

No more so than voting democratic. Why can't anyone realize that there are smart even brilliant people who vote either way. The arrogance of some is overwhelming. As if your way is the only way.

Coming from someone from the state that keeps reelecting Harry Reid your lame attempt at flaming Republicans means nothing. How's this economy thing working out under the Dems? Not too good.

I don't disagree about putting up good candidates. The TP failed miserably in a couple of states (NV being one of them) and lost elections as a result. That still doesn't give NV a pass on electing an incompetent twit for a senator. And doing it repeatedly.

I agree on this issue. We probably lost control of the senate because of inept TEA party candidates.

So why do you hate America? I'm an Independent, with no partisan loyalties whatsoever. Yet I've found by-and-large that the Republicans vote a lot closer to what's best for America, and closer to what our Founding Fathers intended as our form of government, than do the Democrats.

For example, on the scurrilous attempt by TRAITORS to America in Congress to give college to illegal aliens at taxpayer expense, a.k.a. the "Dream Act," it was barely voted down, thanks to over 90% of the GOP voting against it, but less than 10% of the Dems voting against it.

I've seen your posts generally do NOT reflect what's best for America, same as the Democrat Party itself, which has been effectively hijacked from the "more freedoms smaller government" true Liberals by the commie-socialist "big government one-world-government globalist Progressives" calling themselves "Liberal" nowadays.

For decades, the MB was the ONLY organization able to oppose dictatorial tyranny.

As long as democratic mechanisms remain intact for choosing leaders, the MB will either be moderate, or will be voted out.

Turkey's ruling party is now explicitly Muslim. It has not been a disaster. There's no reason why it can't be OK for Egypt, too.

"It has not been a disaster"

Really? So the violence in Damascus is a good thing? http://www.voanews.com/conten...

Violence escalates in Turkey as Kurds fear Civil war. http://www.spiegel.de/interna...

Domestic Violence on the rise in Turkey In fact levels of violence against women are the WORST in all of Europe and the U.S A.

Please try to know what you are talking about before you further embarrass yourself.

This kind of violence was going in long before the Islamist party got elected. Violence overall has NOT increased (except spillover from Syria, which has nothing to do with which party is in power in Turkey).

That remains to be seen. The MB is a diverse group, with certainly SOME distasteful, hard-core types. But the new President is saying the right stuff about protecting the rights of the Coptic Christians and honoring existing treaties. He was NOT the first choice of the MB.

Even Israel congratulated him on his win.

They have the right to their own self determination. Besides they are not this hard-line organization that the right wing portrays them as. Considering the face, that they are considering appointing a christian woman as VP I would say they are more secular than the Republican Party in the US.

I agree, on the other hand, sometimes one has to make missteps to learn. When I was learning to ride a bicycle I fell down a few times before I got it right. I hope that eventually the Egyptians will come to see that democracy is the best path to follow, but I can't expect them to get there without any stumbles along the way.
