Question US

Are we witnessing the END of the great American experiment?

atmer October 12, 2009 16:48:53

With the demise of the MIDDLE CLASS in America, is this the END of our Country as we know it? This is not intended to point blame at either party, but to discuss what we can do to reverse the trend in America.
Naaa... everything is just PEACHY!
You are just over reacting. Here's your hat!
I'm afraid you are right...
THIS is what we should do...

The Right-wing, Corporate-Fascist have about destroyed this country with their Greed and dumb fiscal tactics like Trickle-down Economics. It has been marginalized by the Bushie, Neo-conservative stooges of the Oil Lobby and the Pharmaceutical Lobby, and yes the Banking Lobby. We need to banish the Marginalized Right to their current constituents, the Neo-Nazis, Skin-heads, KKK and Right-wing Conservative Christian Whack-a-Doodles, Confederate Party.
Time to form the 3 new parties to give us a real choice with Social Justice and Humanity as a goal instead of the almighty green-back dollar. From right to left; Progressive-Democrats, Liberal-Democrats, Socialist-Democrats. We can fix the problems for Americans and make this the great nation our founding fathers envisioned us to become. A real government for the people, by the people, that cares about the people. nation founding fathers envisioned real government people people cares people

Fascism has come to America and unless we regain control of our government there will be no more middle class. Can you hear my fingernails on the chalkboard as I slip into poverty?

The Great Experiment was shot down to Hell nearly 100 years ago. What we have been witnessing today and for generations is the result of the great sellout of our country. We have neither been a republic nor a democracy for decades and every administration, whether they wore a red tie or blue, touted liberalism or conservatism has been complicit in the Great Fleecing of this public.

Wer can never move back into the past, we have to be patient and look for ways to bring the middle class back. This certainly didn't happen overnight, it's been headed this way for years through a series of choices implemented by numerous events and an uncountable number of persons. We need to choose the opposite again and again now for the coming years. It can't be reversed by one decision but by the collective of good choices in the methods of business and all dealings in our lives. We have to practice positive gestures in everything that we do.

THIS is what we should do...

We can stand up for ourselves and act like the citizens of the greatest country in the world. We have rights, the right to force resignations from crooked politicians, the right to vote for independent candidates, the right to protest, the right to insist that our representatives vote the way WE want them to vote... WE have the real power, and any politician that doesn't fear that is a moron.

The real problem is we don't exercise our rights, so they ignore us. P.S. ~ That hasn't worked for us, only for the rich and powerful. Want to see them kill America? Stay asleep!

With Dems and Reps, it's hard to really figure out who they are most of the time. They've spent so much time owning America that they are a breed unto themselves. I have strong feelings about having free healthcare for everyone, better schools and well paid teachers, a welfare system that is truly supportivev of the deserving, etc. On the other hand, I support closed borders, and a strong military (that's not fighting overseas for nothing American). I'd like to see taxation control outsourcing jobs, and more people employed. Hard to pin down, a true moderate.

Very good point, Joseph. They do have the freedom to vote against what their constituents want, and they have CLEARLY demonstrated it. At least by cleaning house we will send a message, that if you want to stay there you have to play for OUR team. We do, in effect, get to hire and fire them at the ballot box. Enough strong messages should at least put the odds in our favor.

it's been going on for a while now -- AT LEAST 27 years. that's a full generation. people have been born, grown up and had children of their own while this creeping impoverishment of America has been going on.

as to the second part of your question -- I do not know what to do to reverse the trend. I don't think private individuals CAN do anything except keep throwing people who want to maintain the status quo out of their luxurious corner offices.

THIS is what we should do...

Cut all the left/right crap. This is a game played by politicians that leaves American people to suffer through the consequence. We're neck deep in crap right now and the only way forward is learning from past mistakes, not continually repeating them and hoping for a better outcome. We're near the end of the line with fossil fuels; we have better solutions and technology today to replace them. There are MILLIONS of Americans that have no access to health care; for profit insurance companies are in the business to make money, not help people. Any of this make sense???

We need to do away with the Corporate-Fascist. They are now the party of the Fringe, and are truly marginalized. We need three new parties, from Right-to-Left; Progressive-Democrats, Liberal-Democrats, Socialist-Democrats. All working for Social-Justice, and Humanity. According to your declarations above, I see you as a Liberal-Democrat. parties right-to-left progressive-democrats liberal-democrats socialist-democrats working social-justice humanity declarations liberal-democrat

That's funny, because you're probably right in many ways. I see the need for social programs, and taking control of the xorporations and government agencies that are screwing us to death. I see the need to stop armed conflicts unless they DIRECTLY threaten our country. This world policeman crap is for the birds, and the rich and unscrupulous. I like to see myself as a moderate leaning conservative, but I may have to look at it again.

Things were worse during the Civil War. Benjamin Franklin believed the American experiment would eventually end in despotism. But I'm not so sure we can be as cocksure about anything, really.

What two parties have run this country for how long? I do blame these two parties. Im voting them out next election. I hope everyone else does too. Vote for anything, just not democrats or repubs. I saw a great bumper sticker today. It said, "Global Economy-for that 1% rich". How true.

    voting for a 3rd party doesn't work.
I did it once -- and helped Reagan into the White House. Carter warned us that a vote for Andersen was a vote for Reagan. he was right and I have regretted that vote ever since.

You are right about Carter/Reagan/Anderson. However, one failed experiment doesn't fail the whole system.

The problem with voting Independent is that not enough of us do it. When more of us realize that electing a better candidate is preferrable to being on the team that wins by default, Independents WILL win. Keep the faith!

Yes, he was, but compared to the other two choices which both were of great concern to me, voting for him was a protest vote. By the way 20% of the voting public agreed with me.

I know there are alot more choices these days. There were like twenty of them on the ballot. I think most ppl come down to feeling somewhat liberatarian. Im not sure, research is needed on the parties available.
