Probably never. Once we enter a region or a country, we just never want to leave. The troops were withdrawn from Iraq, but we have the largest embassy in the world in Baghdad, so it looks like we will have a presence there for the foreseeable future.

We will probably never leave Afghanistan, or any other country where we have a presence. We are still in Germany and Japan, almost 70 years after the end of WWII. We would still be in Vietnam, but we were booted out.

Obama announced that he would have the troops out of Afghanistan by mid-2014. But, that was just ANOTHER lie.
I just spoke with members from my last unit, and guess what they said? "We're on rotation schedule to deploy to Afghanistan in 2014."
Deploying TO Afghanistan, in 2014. So much for another of Obama's promises, huh?

I understand your view, but this is exactly the same situation my unit was put in, back in late '07. Except then, they deployed over a year LATER.

Plans for deployment made two years in advance are actually contingency plans, in case withdrawal efforts don't pan out. They can cancel the plans on a moment's notice, but they can't just put them into place if they are suddenly needed.
