Are the Republicans on a witch hunt against Planned Parenthood?

bob 2011/10/06 18:09:02
The Republican have demanded reams and reams of documents from health clinics across the country
Now the Republican are threatening, again, to strip Planned Parenthood of vital federal funding for services like cancer screenings and family planning.
So I guess Republican think that health services are only for the utlra-wealthy 1%
the Republicans ARE on a witch hunt against Planned Parenthood
the Republicans ARE NOT a witch hunt against Planned Parenthood

Again, it isn't often that you & I see eye to eye on an issue, but we both are proponents of people deciding on the big picture. One of the brilliant things about the USA is that we have states rights.

So rather than waste time playing a game on choosing the next SCOTUS judge with abortion being top of the list, I prefer to let states decide, just like I prefer to let states decide on gay marriage & legalizing pot. We've got 50 states, and let people decide what they want to vote for, and where they want to live.

Then so much time & energy won't be wasted going back and forth on these issues on the federal level which have such an emotional component.

I'm a big states' rights fan myself...but I think that it's important to note that under the current regime from the SCOTUS rulings states are limited pretty much only in deciding the law as to the first trimester.

The next six months are left fairly open for the state to determine its policy on it.

The problem with fully submitting to a states' rights system fully is that across and within states we still have to ensure that federal Constitutional standards are met.

If it's a constitutional issue- shouldn't all states follow it? Roe v. Wade said it was unconstitutional to deny a woman the right to decide what to do with her body, and the U.S.A. as a whole follows the constitution- so leaving it up to the states turns it into a red state/blue state thing.

Could a state all out ban guns? I would hope not- because it is a constitutional right-

Ooops selected the wrong one. I should have picked "the Republicans ARE NOT a witch hunt against Planned Parenthood" If you ever seen the shoddy and shady annual reports they put out? I have seen annual reports by various companies that go right down to the penny explaining how much is spend on almost every procedure their companies perform and how the money from each source of revenue is divided and spent. PP stops at the general level summery level and never goes into very detailed explanation on how the money from each source is spent.

In Fact, somehow Planned Parenthood has gotten away with not doing something almost every other organization who receives money from the feds can't do. that is provide a strict and detailed report of how the funds they receive from the Federal Government through ether Medicaid or direct funding is spent down to the penny. And every time their is a bill to require a report requiring a strict accounting of how federal fund transmitted to PP in any manner are spent buy PP, PP fights it tooth and nail. They just don't people to know how they are doing end runs around the Hyde amendment.
If Planned Parenthood is on the up and up, then why do they keep fighting detailed reports? because they don't want people to take a calulator and figure their lies.

But the ironic thing is she WAS a witch. That supports the argument that the republicans are right. But still a great metaphor for your side of the issue.

Angry stupid mob, from Monty Python and the Holy grail. A rather iconic scene. I don't agree with Bob's point, but this picture does support his perspective. Brilliant!

Well, I don't see the angry mobs. One job that I was on required me to pass a planned parenthood building. Several times I saw a small group of people out front, quietly and peacefully protesting. Granted, there are the crazies out there, who bomb clinics, or shoot someone, but if we're all honest about it, there are "nuts" on both sides of the fence. It doesn't really matter what a mentally ill person believes. It's their illness that causes them to be violent, not their beliefs.
What I see here is someone who thinks he's clever. Posting the little pictures, confident that he's won, while the reality of it is, he hasn't proven a thing. A mob mentality can come over any group of people, no matter what their belief system is. That doesn't make their beliefs wrong. That just makes them wrong.

But, you see that with most any mob, whether they're left wing or right. To post a picture of one in answer to all comments doesn't accomplish anything.
What about the guy who poured gas on himself and set himself on fire to protest the war. He's still dead and the war's still going on. All he proved was, that he was a nut. Doesn't mean everyone who's against war is a nut. Your argument just doesn't carry any weight.

A picture that satirizes angry idiot mobs always makes sense. They have an article on Drudge now about how some of them are being paid, others don't even speak english, but they have english-language signs and they don't even know what the signs say.

Talk about illiterate, but I guess those people aren't angry, they're just paid to be part of the mob.

    Margaret Sanger
    Founder of Planned Parenthood says
"The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it."
On blacks, immigrants and indigents:"...human weeds,' 'reckless breeders,' 'spawning... human beings who never should have been born." "More children from the fit, less from the unfit -- that is the chief aim of birth control."

Now that is a progressive organization that really deserves federal money until it hurts!

Pay up you inferiors! We have blacks, cripples, poor and children to kill...eugenics gotta love it

What "witch hunt"? We only want to keep federal money from being spent to kill babies - and wasn't that what all of you libs were protesting during Viet Nam??? If this were a "witch hunt," there would be demands for congressional hearings to find out why there are no waivers of liability written for abortions when someone who gets their ears pierced has to sign off stating they understand all of the ramifications of the procedure. Or why certain PP clinics are getting federal funds and functioning in a way that aids and abets human trafficking. No one is stopping any private funding to kill liberals - I mean, offer liberal women "choice." And I sure don't see the likes of Rosie O'Donnell or Babwa Streisand stepping up to the plate to fund cancer screenings, family planning services or anything else that allegedly is now underfunded. Any time you libs want to spend more of your own money, you are welcome to do so. Just don't ask me to participate in paying for other people's foolish choices.

Repubs would have you believe it's all about abortion. Even though they already know that federal laws prohibit this. Just like the voter supression agenda they're on, this is just another scam to get rid of programs that HELP the masses, knowing fully well that internal polls show the masses vote overwhelmingly democratic. These clowns would do anything to get power.

Yes, the Uterus Police are at it again. PP offers numerous services that many people would not be able to afford elsewhere... mammograms, colon screening, STP awareness, better nutrition during pregnancy, etc. But since when have the Republicans cared about the little people?

All PP clinics do not offer abortion services and by law, federal money cannot be spent on them anyway. It is sheer stupidity on their part because shutting down PP only means women determined to abort will find another way. There is always a Miss Rosie in the end room at the No Name Motel.
