If they were about keeping drivers safe they would be removed immediately. It has been conclusively shown that red light cameras are dangerous, and their known presence cause accidents.

It's ALWAYS about the money when it comes to the Government.

As an added bonus, the money that the Government collects from spying on the people is helping to finance the ever growing web of cameras that are violating our rights to privacy. Which in turn buy's the Government a priceless commodity, A commodity that Government holds above ALL other commodity's. ---- POWER!!!!

turn buys government priceless commodity commodity government holds commoditys strongpowerstrong

POWER, over and ON the people.

A red light camera does nothing at all to keep drivers safe...you are either going to stop at the light or you are not...taking your picture while running a red light doesnt make you any safer...I want to add that I do think they help when showing who was at fault when involved in a accident caused by someone running a red light...but they certainly are not keeping any body safe

Traffic light cameras could be used to keep people safe at dangerous intersections. To do this you would want to overtly place the cameras and provide signs notifying people the cameras were in use. Instead many choose to place them covertly. If you want them to keep people safe - advertise that they are in use with signs, publicity, etc. The objective would be to reduce the number of people running the lights, not simply ticket them.

I think intersections could benefit by having a flashing light placed in areas before the intersection to alert people that they are approaching a control light area also would help to have them when approaching a stop sign area...they could use solar enegry to help cut down the expense of them

I agree with you, in my county we have signs in place before the intersections the cameras are installed and it states the amount of the fine if you run the red light, but they are still running through the red light intersections. The only problem we had was for drivers turning right at an intersection after a complete stop and they were fined but later reimbursed after litigation arising from it.

Just one more way for government to get into our pocketbooks. I've heard of some people disabling some of those cameras. Unfortunately, they did not know that they were on another camera when they were doing so.

It causes more accidents because drivers are stopping short and abruptly because of the cameras.

    You can't cross-examine a camera.
Also, in my area, collisions have increased after red-light cameras were installed.
People are stopping short and getting rear-ended, because they don't want to be caught on camera and get rear-ended.
  • k r Dum Luk 2013/02/03 15:13:28

I think the collisions might increase if not everyone knew there was a camera at the intersection. Same thing would happen if there was a traffic cop hiding in the bushes. those that saw it would stop short - those that didn't would not. Hence my opinion that they be clearly marked and advertised.

They are also illegal under the law because there is no accuser...

well I am not so sure about your information as to them being illegal...I think you need to check your resources...but I do agree their use does more to generate funds than protect lives

not necessarily illegal for that reason. You have the opportunity to challenge the ticket. In court you would face a representative of the municipality and could ask when the camera was installed, when it was last tested, by whom, when it was last synchronized, what the error was, etc. If they can not produce documentation to support their accusation the benefit of the doubt goes to you (allegedly).

and cutting man power. Keeps drivers on the up and up... makes people behave... otherwise they act like stupid kids with cell phones hanging from their ears. People know right from wrong........adults should act like it. Sixteen is too young to be driver....ever talk to a 16 year old? Duh! And then they get into high power people killing machines.....
    it's scary alright

When I was in Germany, 17 was the minimum age but for the most part I saw very few German drivers under 20. I was actually delayed getting my first license because when I was 15 in Germany, I could not attend driver's training. When I came back to the states days before my 16th birthday, I could not get a license for another year as I had to take driver's training (with a bunch of freshmen) the year that I was a junior.

My exchange daughter from Russia tells us that most Russian young people don't get driver's licenses until their mid-twenties.

I do question the wisdom of contemporary 16 year-old drivers. They are far less mature than 40 years ago.

Red light cameras should have never been allowed in any state. A machine does not have the right to throw you in a court room system that is flawed.

They, along with the seat belt law, are nothing more then a flim flam on this nation to rob you of your money.

It's all about revenue generation: idiot drivers will always run red lights, fail to yield, speed up when they see the light turn yellow, etc.,...Cities love idiot drivers.

Just keep feeding the system and everything will be ok - at all levels we could cut costs if people would just get back to basics, but instead we come up with new and better ways to feed the Government. This should not even be allowed. It is just a money maker and it makes no sense. I'm sure the insurance companies love it at well - more money if the Government gives out more tickets - Broken, broken, broken - we need to take back our country from our own goverment.

The irony of your last statement is that the government in place now is the one we put there in the last election. What makes you think we'll do any better with the next one? Have you ever thought of running for an elected office? City council, PTA, school board, etc... There are many opportunities to be the change that you want to see happen.

check out information about a little town in Arizona called El Mirage...the people there were able to get rid of the whole City Council and city manager in that town...when they stood up to it and replaced it with a council that was not corrupt... I didnt think we could do it...but we did
