If a woman accuses a man of rape , her name is kept from the press. However the accused gets tried and convicted in the media.

Rapists don't deserve privacy. Victims need protection though, for obvious reasons. Sure some men are falsely accused, but most men don't have to fear for their lives by going to the police.

"Sure some men are falsely accused"

And that's ok with you? What if were you or a loved that was wrongly accused, then what? Would it still be ok?

It will always happen and there's nothing we can do about it. Of course it's not okay to lie and potentially ruin someone's life. I didn't mean to sound cavalier about it- but I personally think that it pales in comparison to an actual rape.

Publishing women's names would cause them not to report rape at all!

I do not favor putting the rape victim's name in the media, but the accused should have the same protections. In the US Justice system, the accused is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The accused should not be convicted by the media.

For a true rape case, its very fair. In the case you cited it was a horrendous miscarriage of justice. Nancy Grace was the worst offender. Did any of the men ever sue her a$$? They should have. I haven't watched her since she did that.

The most egregious case that pops to mind is the Duke Rape Case in 2006, where 3 white lacrosse players were wrongly accused by a black stripper, Crystal Gail Mangum. The 3 were pilloried in the media and by their fellow students and 88 members of the Duke faculty who rushed to judgement with no factual evidence.

After North Carolina Attorney General took over the case, the 3 were cleared of all charges, the prosecuting DA Mike Nifong was removed from office and disbarred. He spend 1 day in jail. Miss Mangum was never charged with making a false allegation.
