Are people too trusting of those who cry "rape"?

We all know about the Duke Lacrosse case and how due-process seemed to be suspended in favor of the girl who claimed she was raped. Again, a similar case is arising in Rhode Island where a man has been indicted in a rape case that occurred 32 years ago, with the sole evidence being the word of the accuser. This is a really interesting read about this 32-year-old rape case

I felt this begged the question: Are we too trusting of those who cry "rape"? Obviously its a touchy subject, but should we exercise more caution before assuming an accusers account of a rape to be true?

And that is only because of the abuse that the system has endured from
the likes of the Duke rape case et al. This is a horrid attack, and the
fact that it gets used as a way to get back at someone or used to
extort money, just hurts all of the real victems out there.

Women just some times forget who they are and want to be a rape victim. Some times women, who've been raped are pyscologically delusional to the point of thinking that eveyr man they see, is the one who raped them. Women some times think that every man they meet, wants to rape them, nothing more, not realizing that they're not always right.

unfortunately, it is the job of the Police to assume any reported crime is true.

and rape is such a personal crime, it is normal to believe a girl can be so ashamed to say anything, even for 32 years...

I'd like to say that as a society, we are too trusting of alleged rape victims, but if we were to start discounting people cause we think they may have made it up, how many others will not come forward when they actually are raped, thus allowing someone to continue raping women...

it's the ol rock and a hard place situation.. unfortunately, innocent guys will have to endure false accusations because some girls just want attention...

Accusations of rape = Salem Witch Trials.

All one has to say (mostly females and children) is "RAPE!" and the male w/o given time to defend themselves are convicted or suspected of doing so by both the law and society.

I don't want to deminish the hurt and anguish of the real victims here, but I know there are some who do cry rape, and the poor guys life is ruined because she was caught cheating on her boyfriend, and she didn't want to admit it was consentual. I know I sound heartless, but too many loose girls are going this route to hurt the guy who maybe didn't want anything more than a one night stand, or just wanted a little sympathy or attention.

We should exercise caution in a way of finding out their reputation and the story. I read about how a girl was raped because her friends left her with a group of guys she'd never met. Tell me that's not stupid.

Considering that there were a half a million women raped in 2005 and this doesn't count children. Women should be believed. No woman wants to go through what she goes through for fun or any other reason. Out of that half a million women raped, only a hundred thousand reported it. Not because it didn't happen but because they either believed they would not be believed or because they couldn't take what would happen to them if they did report. And that means that in 1995 alone 400,000 rapists got away with it and our still out there.

I hear what you are saying and I agree with it, but what about the men who are falsely accused and sentenced to a life of shame from some scorned female who couldn't handle rejection after a one night stand?
