Are people in our country becoming more self-centered and less respectful of the rights of others than past generations?

It is being bread into them that the government will take care of you and you are not responsible for your own actions.

For many, absolutely. Far to many see opposing view points as wrong, not just different, but wrong, and therefore the opposing person is an idiot.

We are reacting to the leadership of our social environment. The schools, church and government leaders are all failing to live up to good moral standards.

Than past generations? L-M-F-A-O. Why do people get the idea that in past generations people just held hands skipping throught the meadows singing in harmony and lived in a world of peace, cakes, and rainbows? The world has always been a messed up place, not just in the 21st century so stop with this "generaton" stuff.

People themselves can be courteous, but Americans as a whole have always been self-centered.

    Let's see, past generations.

Let Japanese Americans get put in camps, lost their businesses, homes etc...

Let Woodrow Wilson deny women the right to vote.

Let the IRS take control of taxes.

Allowed the Feds to be created and control our currency.

Denied tax payers of dark pigmentation the right to vote, the right to eat at certain restaurants, schools, etc..

Allowed the Jim Crow Laws to rule the South.

Allowed Hoover to illegally wire tape civilians; well this generation allowed that as well.

Allowed FDR to create The New Deal.

    LOL; the list goes on.

They no longer respect the right of privacy. People seem to think that they have an innate right to tell you how you should live, talk, breathe, walk, and take out your trash.

Just part of the political plan to divert the public from what is going on in DC. Polarize the population, keep each group blaming the others without ever thinking who is the real enemy.

If you blame liberals/progressives/democrats for all the problems, you have fallen into their trap.
If you blame conservatives/republicans for all the problems, you have fallen into their trap.

Wake up people, the enemy is in Washington,.. They are called politicians and the party they belong to doesn't matter,...

Moderation used to be a good thing. Now moderates are being voted out of office against opponents within their same party who've managed to paint them as weak for not taking a hardline stance on a position. As a result, extremism has infiltrated both sides of the aisle. One party wants to spend until we're broke, the other wants to cut taxes on the wealthiest of people and businesses until we're broke. No one wants to compromise and everyone feels validated because they create the environment which allows them to receive only validation and no criticism. The right watches Fox while the left watches MSNBC. The right listens to Rush while the left listens to Moore. The right foolishly believes the Republicans will stand for freedom while the left foolishly believe Democrats stand for equality. Both parties support the wars, both parties support the drug war, both parties want a mandate (Obamacare exists today, Romneycare will exist tomorrow unless 2004 repeats itself), both parties support NAFTA and GATT because we supposedly don't need entry level jobs, and both parties use the same political tactics to act like the other is insipid but at the end of the night, they go out for martinis and hookers and repeat the whole process all over again.

Add that to the fact that we live ...

Add that to the fact that we live in the Internet age of NOW and it explains why people care less about anyone other than themselves Just give to a charity that spends most of it's money on "business operations" and don't be bothered to actually help anyone else.

Because we are getting to the point that we fight for what we want and need. With our rights being taken away, with all the Illegals getting their way at the cost of AMERICAN CITIZENS, with parental rights being hendered, I could go on and on. But this is the reason its a ME AND MINE NATION
