I think both the atheists and fundamentalists have a real short sighted view of the world. They are more related than what appears to separate them.

You assume much, and when I say fundamentalist religious folks, I am not saying only Christians, but Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Sikhs, and Hindus as well

Oh yes I know, but I just tried to keep it sort of simple. I am talking about religion as a whole.

Marx said G-d is the State, the State is G-d, however I am sure he didn't put the - there

that those who proclaim that a state is some kind of deity are no better than those who want to believe in something higher than the state

I am in no way saying they are. I called Stalin evil. I was merely stating that he in no way stands for the rest of us atheists. And that his killings were not in the name of atheism, unlike those done in the name of Christianity, Islam, etc.

Marxism is an atheist philosophy, and did I even mention Stalin?

Some of them certainly can be, as they share some of the same characteristics that make aggressive christians tiresome. In my experience, many appear to have a difficult time understanding that these actions mirror the very individuals that they have such a philosophical problem with. This level of hypocrisy does not go unnoticed.

Up until recently, most conservative religious folks were content to live quietly below the radar. Other than the debate on pro-life vs. pro-choice, Christians aren't out there litigating against every little thing that offends them.

A few do , there have been plenty of religious attempts to remove offending books such as Catcher In The Rye from school libraries over the years.

Yeah, true, but it's not nearly as frequent. Please don't take this as me defending every move the religious side takes, attempting to ban books is silly, just like trying to ban the Ten Commandments and religious symbols. Both sides do things that aren't necessarily rational from time to time.

Thank you. Ever notice the atheists spend most of the time attacking the fundamentalists but rarely go after the mainstream religious people? Besides the fact that the fundamentalists are the easiest to attack, the fundamentalists remind the atheists too much of themselves.

Oh my. Feeling of insecurity. Instant reaction? Tell your opponent how much smarter you are than they are. Seen this a thousand times. Would you like to try a newer angle?

Wasn't trying to insinuate I'm at all smarter than you, nor did my response reek of insecurity. I'm merely pointing out the potential dangers that can be encountered if you approach a debate/discussion with a closed mind. And (as has been my general experience) most people who label themselves as adhering to a specific ideology lock themselves into a closed-minded reality, one from which they're rarely willing to depart.
I also know that I'm very much included in the group of people who've lots left to learn. That's why I'm still alive.

Well, first we both have to assume my mind is closed and I don't remember that we agreed to that.In fact, that's incredibly rude and it doesn't work as a debating technique, especially when your opponent calls you out on that tactic.

WHAT? I would never suggest your mind is closed! Where is that coming from?
I'm not at all trying to be rude - seriously. Was not my intention nor my desire to offend you. Sincere apologies if that is the case.

Don't know what else I can add to that. The atheists and the fundamentalists are two sides of the same coin. They're both idiots.

I disagree. Fundamentalists tend to be zealots. Atheists are simply people who don't believe in a deity. Calling any group of people "idiots" is of little value.
