I think both the atheists and fundamentalists have a real short sighted view of the world. They are more related than what appears to separate them.

Irrelevant. If you speak more than one, it hasn't helped you figure out how chat forums work. Moron.

About the same. Everybody has an 'ism.' Everybody with an 'ism' likes to push it--sometimes to the point of being obnoxious.

.They are against everything religious. Only an atheist has rights. Don't believe me just ask them.

You don't seem to know what "atheist" means. It means "absence of belief in gods". Hatred of religion is anti-theism. They are two different things.

A funny thing happens when you stop pushing your religion at atheists. They stop having to push back, and enjoy being left alone. Try it.

Both can be horrible to be around at times, but I've as yet to meet an atheist that wasn't rude, condescending, or obnoxious.

Atheists get very rude, nasty, condescending, patronizing and hateful. At least the Christians genuinely care about my salvation, heart and soul.

Yep, Christians may not agree with you, or you with them, but you won't likely walk away from the conversation offended. Atheists haven't figured out you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

  • JwonGalt seathan... 2012/07/07 00:54:33 (edited)
    JwonGalt
No, I dont believe atheism itself is radical.
I think certain atheists can be radical

Much like radical Christians. jews. muslims, etc. anyone of any sect can be radical
Martin Luther King was a radical, Malcom X was a radical
One was Christian, one converted to Islam
Both promoted equality albeit in different ways

Radicalism in and of itself is not bad....its how one uses their radicalism.

So yes, I think atheists have the potential to be radically bad than radical fundamentalists of religions

I have seen different kinds of atheists, some are more tolerant than others.
I was an atheist at one point.

"I think certain atheists can be radical"

Not about atheism, they can't. Atheism is just lack of belief in gods.

"Much like radical Christians. jews. muslims, etc"

Rubbish. Those people advocate murder, and carry it out. Haven't you noticed the difference between that, and people who use words and ideas to fight back against it? Come on.

Well everyone is an individual- so I don't believe my experiences with the atheists I have encountered should be seen as being representative of all people who are atheist. But personally I believe that there is a fine line between atheism and religious fundamentalism. Each is about absolutism.

If, for example, you believe that it is all or nothing- that if every word printed in the bible is both historically and scientifically accurate- and if it is not, then nothing is correct- then it is easy to see how a disillusioned fundamentalist would easily adopt an atheistic viewpoint.

I have met both religious people and atheists who have to push their beliefs- and I have met atheists and religious people who respect other's beliefs

Sorry- it is just that some the best atheists I know are ex- fundamentalists. I don't want to challenge the beliefs or lack thereof of others. I do believe that both have an absolute viewpoint- I guess that is what I am saying.

I think it all depends on the the people. Some people are truly religious and keep their spirituality to themselves, ( like myself) rather than trying to shove it down other's throats. The same is true of people who don't believe in G-d. Some want to pontificate about how there is nothing out there. Some people feel the need to convert everyone they meet into their way of thinking while others are content in what they have chosen to believe or not believe and don't have to talk about it. It depends on the people. I find religion and spirituality a personal choice and don't pass judgment on people either way. BUT, I dislike it when anyone tries to shove their belief system in my face..They won't accept anything i have to say, or even debate issues, they just like to hear their own words. Fanatical people on both sides act equally loony to me. Either believe or don't believe but don't tell me how to believe or how not to.

fundamentalist religions promote belief in a supernatural being. They promote the use of strange rituals to please this supernatural being. they promote prayer as a means of getting things they want. They are not tolerant of those who do not believe in their supernatural being. Atheists do not believe in supernatural beings. They do not care if others believe in supernatural beings. they just don't want their tax dollars paying for anything that has to do with religion. That does not make them worse in my opinion.

" . . . . . Atheists demand anything religious be removed from public view."

I have to tell you, I have traveled around this country a little bit. I have seen crucifixes and stars of David, etc., etc. Not once have I ever heard of an atheist demanding that a church remove the crucifix from the top of a steeple.

If there is any evidence that anyone ever demanded that all religious symbols be removed from public view, please cite it.
