Apple is testing out ipads with larger screens. Would you buy a tablet with a screen that’s about 13 inches?

Some of Apple's future iPhones and iPads might give you more screen real estate, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.

The Cupertino-based company has recently been testing an iPhone screen larger than 4 inches and an iPad screen slightly smaller than 13 inches with its Asia suppliers. The current iPhone 5 has a 4-inch screen and the iPad has a 9.7-inch display.

But before you start holding out for these bigger devices, it's important to remember that Apple has long tested different designs that never make it to market.

I don't get the whole tablet thing. What's the point?
  • sglmom 2013/08/01 04:12:35
    YES ..
(the size of a screen really does matter .. along with its ability to expand and support the needs of the disabled communities .. as well as elders and those with movement problems)

I have the largest screen SmartPhone with apps that support MY disabilities .. and you'd never know I use them either (unless you really are that observant/nosy) ..

Tablets are popular because they're portable. 13 inch screens are not portable enough to warrant buying them. I like 7-8 inch tablets best...

No. Not an ipad for sure. More real estate to shatter by doing mundane tasks.

I have pretty poor eyesight... and a bigger screen would definitely help.
I don't like zooming in on the screen, because I always end up hitting a link somewhere on the page that I didn't even know was there... and I end up losing track of where I was. -'_-

Just a Tablet? Maybe but depends on the price. An Apple tablet? Never, I hate all things Apple, I have never found anything of theirs any good and way over priced.

The only reason I have not purchased a tablet is because the screens are too d*mn small. Once they hit the size in length and width of my laptop, then I'm in.
reason purchased tablet screens dmn hit length width laptop

Nexus 7. I pretty much use it as a phone.

Nexus 7. No question. Much better processor and screen, quicker updates, 4.3 has made it amazingly fast, and Amazon App Store is useless.

Yea I heard abut the Nexus 7 2nd generation just today. I saw a guy put it right in his pocket lol. I think I might get it. It looks great; especially the high resolution screen and thinness of it.

Personally, I think the old one's better value, here the new ones are £50 extra, £200 vs £150... but then, the new one's a premium rather than budget device...

You're right. I'm going to look more into it. Amazon has some great deals with the tablets:)

Look at Hisense's tablet as well, same specs as the old Nexus 7, but with worse build quality, if you want cheap but cheerful :P

I'm interested in acquiring a "proper" computer with a touch screen monitor, designed for such things. But a tablet? No. If I'm gonna spend that much money on a device, I want to be able to do what I want with it.

I like my iPad just as it is. Any bigger would be cumbersome.

Apple: "I have a great idea that will wow everyone... Wait for it... Let's... Make the screen... Bigger."

No it is still just an I-pud. I would never own any thing apple because they are over priced and under powered. I know how to use technology unlike all the Apple Zombies out there, bunch a freaking lemmings.
  • Rickie 2013/07/30 13:29:54
Not an Apple tablet though. With tablets becoming more powerful (tablet laptop hybrids now on the market) it just makes sense to have a bigger screen tablet. It would basically replace my laptop. I would use a wireless keyboard and mouse for office work/working with documents. For entertainment purposes I would just use the touch functionality and enjoy the bigger screen. Playing games and watching movies on my light weight device that did not cost an arm and a leg.

Only an iPad is NOT a laptop. If they produced a version running OS X...then maybe you'd have a point there.
  • Rickie Mark Mc... 2013/07/30 15:22:01
What are you talking about? I think you missed my point. There are tablets that are just as powerful as laptops now. A powerful tablet with a bigger screen would be awesome. Plus I do believe my original statement said I would not be purchasing an Apple tablet (Ipad) anyway. The question asked did not ask about purchasing an Ipad with a bigger screen. It asked about tablets.

Yeah, I just reread, and did overlook that you were talking about traditional PC tablets.
  • Rickie Mark Mc... 2013/07/30 18:57:52
Thanks for the reread. Do you own an Ipad? I find them to be a bit pricey.

I do. I got the third Gen iPad back when it was the only multi-core solution available, and because of the retina display. My only regret was in not buying the 64GB version. 16GB fills up way to easily. With all the options out there now, I would definitely buy the Microsoft Surface Pro before anything else, but that's because I'd use it as a laptop. I'd still buy an iPad despite the price difference. In all fairness, I don't think that Apple is significantly overpriced. Most tablet manufacturers are only just now beginning to offer true HD displays on their ten inch displays. Apple's is actually higher res than that. I think the price is reasonable...for now.
