Obama administration to limit hunting and remove gun owners from public land

Gun owners throughout America use public lands for target practice,
hunting and training. In fact, on most BLM land it’s always been legal
to do so. But new rules, that are now being drafted by the Obama
Administration, could severely limit your rights to shoot on public
land.

In a major move by the Obama Administration to restrict gun owners
rights, the interior department is planning on banning gun owners from
shooting on millions of acres of public land.

The proposed draft, if approved, will be a blow to gun owners
and will also restrict the rights of hunters and limit the use of
Bureau land for hunting.

“It’s not so much a safety issue. It’s a social conflict issue,” said
Frank Jenks, a natural resource specialist with Interior’s Bureau of
Land Management. He says that people “freak out” when they hear shooting
noises on public lands.

And lets not forget the “environmental reasons.” After hundred of
years of shooting on public lands it’s now apparently hurting the
environment. According to the BLM shooters are endangering plants and
littering public lands.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration says it will not restrict recreational shooting on public lands, reversing a draft policy that had caused an uproar among gun owners and hunters, especially in the West.

In a memo sent Wednesday, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said he would direct his agency to "take no further action to develop or implement" the draft policy, which would have restricted target shooting on some public lands near residential areas. Officials said they were trying to ensure public safety in rapidly growing areas of the West, where some residents have clashed with gun owners who use public lands for target practice.

Republican lawmakers and gun rights groups called the policy unnecessarily restrictive.

Salazar said the vast majority of land overseen by the Interior Department remains open to recreational shooting.

Hey its public land right, or are those of us who dont like guns not part of the public?

well i know here in s/w idaho a BLM owned land "blacks creek "area we used to be able to shoot about anything , then ADA county closed it off "stating the users werent removing their trash after shooting " this is true . ! turned it into a wildlife refruge .. MOSTLY whistle pigs !

however the county made some rulings that it was in county jurisdiction then argued shooting had to be than 3000 feet from domestic dwellings " it was !" so then they went father to have the BLM barring any shooting on public lands !! " then fenced it off and had county sherrifs patroling it ..
siting there was shooting ranges close , however these ranges are for /trap skeet shooting .another for black power only ! I'm affiliated w/ both of them . and have shot many a round there ..
.the other site was convenient for those who "CLEANED UP THEIR SHELLS & TARGETS " which did become a problem !

is the current admin trying to restrict our freedoms ? ABSLOUTELY ...

citizens with arms (second ammend right ) dont mix with thier agenda ,,and the resistance we could instill ....just an opinion ....

I suppose this isnt the only state or jurisdiction doing this ...

The government should sell most of the public land to repay some of the debt. Actually, if they want to be PC, they should give some of it back to the Indians.

Give me a break do you have any clue how many financial deals were made with the Indians. I'm so sick of the bleeding hearts who don't get that the Indians have been paid 10 fold in dollars and casinos for the land they never owned to begin with.

Hey, you're preaching to the choir. Even still, Indians have more claim to US land than Palestinians have to Israel's land.

Bear arms. That refers the right to hold the gun, and use it when needed. It may not say for sport, but without that sport animals will overpopulate (I live in Michigan, hunters help the deer population, without them they would eat all the greenery and starve in ten years). Thus making a need to shoot the animals.

this is so absurd , just wait , all of you rememeber the true saying , "when guns are outlawed, only the outlaws will have guns." Nothing more true has ever been said. Outlaws and drug cartel will infiltrate the BLM lands with their guns at a level like we have never seen before. And pitty the law abiding taxpayer that crosses the path (of these outlaws) while legally trying to visit and enjoy his taxpayer supported lands. Since the drug cartels and other outlaws know the good citizen is completely defenseless, the good citizen will be robbed , shot and killed . Anti Gun, liberal People will say " how could this happen ? there are laws to prevent guns in the national parks and lands. how come those outlaws have guns in there , we have made that illegal ." That is just how anti gun people and Obama think. Just write more laws , what a joke folks, outlaws don't care about any laws, good citizens try to abide by the laws even when the law is wrong. It seems here in America for the last 30 years a good citizen has become a victim of the law and the lawless. Mr Obama, go work with Congress to solve our economic problems and foreign relations. Leave the good citizens of America and their legal firearms alone.

What he has done is make a federal crime discharge of a firearm on Federal land and for practical purpose this is approx 1/3 of our land. Political correctness aside, this is a major move against gun ownership as he is eliminating the use or narrowing the need for guns for hunting. This is the beginning of the end.

Living in a state where 63% of our land is federally managed or owned (It is not constitutional for the federal government to own any land that is not for offices or military installations), we are already seeing an annual loss of 24 million because of the Mexican Wolves they introduced on us. We now are seeing another 3 million in lost revenue from fewer non-resident hunters who cannot afford to hut out of state.
Idaho’s 259,000 hunters and anglers spend more than $598 million a year on their sports, which support 11,500 jobs and put $324 million worth of paychecks to workers around the state, according to the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation.

Sportsmen and women also generate $70 million in state and local taxes.

It looks like more job killing by the Obammy administration as well as an unconstitutional power grab.
