Another Day, Another Romney Lie: Mitt Slams Obama for Granting States Welfare Work Program Flexibility That HE BEGGED FOR as Massachusetts Governor.

Welfare-to-work flexibility was exactly what Governor Mitt Romney wanted. But Candidate for President Mitt Romney today criticized Obama for offering that flexibility to states in managing their welfare-to-work programs.

In 2005, Romney signed a letter along with 29 other state governors that called for increased waiver authority to give the states greater flexibility in managing their TANF programs.

“Increased waiver authority, allowable work activities, availability
of partial work credit and the ability to coordinate state programs are
all important aspects of moving recipients from welfare to work,” the
letter read.

In addition to this blatant hypocrisy, Mitt then ran an ad on Tuesday that contained a deliberate lie by claiming that "On July 12, President Obama quietly announced a plan to gut welfare reform by waiving the work requirement in welfare programs".

Mitt knows the waivers do not drop the work requirement in welfare programs, they simply waive the FEDERALLY MANDATED work requirements and allow STATES to develop their own programs as they see fit. Mitt and the Republican Governor's Association PLEADED for those waivers in 2005—THE VERY SAME WAIVERS ROMNEY NOW CLAIMS ARE GUTTING WELFARE REFORM.
