Dear Examiner,
I am writing to you about this article on your website: Sikh Temple massacre may be inspired by militant hate groups.
First of all, your use of "may" be should be a signal right away that this is not a fact but an opinion piece but you know full well readers will have forgotten that by the time they reach the reckless and dangerous propaganda contained in the article. This distortion of reality is a smear campaign directed at innocent people and groups that have absolutely no known history of any sort of terrorism or violence to date and is not founded on even a shred of evidence. Yet the damage is done.
Who ever your propaganda hack, Gregory Spearing is, he is certainly not a reporter.
I am not going to repeat all of the wordage in this piece that caused me to write but will focus on these two paragraphs:
"The ranks of hate groups waxes and wanes over the years but surged quickly with the election of Barack Obama. The use of the word "Patriot" can be a tip off, a subtle wink and nod to those in the know.
Hate groups are not merely angry Tea Party folks fixated on budget imbalances and putting God and the Bible at the heart of government, though they share those beliefs. "Patriot" hate groups believe it is too late for negotiations."
Here Gregory Spearing has set out to demonize the use of the word Patriot. Really? So now you have allowed the portrayal of anyone who thinks of themselves as a person who loves their country enough to serve and protect it as a member of a hate group?
Just where does Gregory Spearing get this kind of idea that using the word Patriot and winking is a subtle tip off to indicate one is a potential terrorist to those in the know? Has he infiltrated such a group and is reporting from an eye witness point of view or is he just blowing wild fantasies out of his posterior to smear the very types of persons who came together to form this great nation that represents the last bastion of freedom on the planet?
I suggest that what Gregory Spearing has done here is to cast doubt and indeed generate hate for any who might be proud to consider themselves a Patriot whether they are even in any group of any sort or not. Maybe Gregory Spearing needs a lesson on Patriotism. Patriot - Definition: A patriot is someone who feels a strong support for his or her country.
Gregory continues on with his dangerous bloviating by further more suggesting the TEA Party folks are a hate group. Again, -Really? And what acts of hate has any TEA party ever been involved with? Does Gregory not understand the difference between a group being angry about the high taxes we all pay and a hate group? Maybe Gregory Spearing is confusing the TEA party with OWS. OWS is the group now known for trashing the environment, busting out windows, destroying property, rape, murder, theft and threats while stating that they hate the police with their well known chant FTP. I won't repeat what the F stands for but maybe with a little actual investigative research Gregory Spearing might discover it for himself. And lets not forget they are also known for lighting the American flag on fire, relieving them selves on it and on police cars, (as well as on just about anything it seems) But yet Gregory does not mention this group as a potential hate group but chooses instead the TEA party with no record of any such activities.
Additionally for him to say the TEA party is fixated on putting God and the Bible at the heart of the government is just absolute ignorance of facts. Again I ask, where does this Gregory Spearing get his convoluted and twisted ideas from? It certainly can't be from having any sort of first hand knowledge of an actual TEA party. I am not suggesting that there are not those who believe in God or read the Bible involved with TEA parties but that certainly is not a party agenda of any TEA party that I am aware and due to my activities I am aware of many. And to add insult to injury he puts all of this in a phrase that lumps those he suggests are out there taking violent actions as a part of hate groups together with TEA party members.
That this article is reckless should be self evident by now. So lets look at why it is dangerous propaganda. There are millions of people in this nation who consider themselves to be Patriots who don't have the first inkling of an idea to commit a violent act or an act of terrorism. Gregory's flippant use of the word in conjunction with such ideas may lead many to assume that anyone who thinks of themselves as such is suspect for committing such crimes. Many who consider themselves to be Patriots and rightly so have served us and sacrificed all to put their lives on the line at the direction of our government in the military. To even suggest that those who love their country are operating out of hate cast doubts on a fundamentally high aspiration that all citizens should aspire to.
Maybe Gregory Spearing has never heard of John Kennedy or his quote: Ask not what your country can do for you but for what you can do for your country.
It is also very dangerous to members of TEA parties to cast doubts upon them when they have done nothing to deserve such doubt or disregard. Does he not see that he himself is building the fire of hate against innocent people? It is becoming old, and tired that at every new report of any type of violence that the press immediately points the finger at the TEA party. I'd call Gregory Spearing another Brian Ross but he is no where near as well known so I will just hope he remains what he is always - a propaganda hack of little consequence.
There is more, much more to be upset about in this article such as his lumping all people who support the second amendment with hate groups for example in this line about hate groups: They claim 2nd Amendment rights to "keep and bear arms" as a right to weapons for fighting the United States government Guess what, that is exactly why the founding fathers gave us the right to bear arms as well as for protection of our lives and property against criminals. I think Spearing needs to spend more time with learning history and investigating things that he claims to know about and less time on writing about things he obviously knows nothing about.
The founding fathers and others have had much to say on the issue of guns and citizens and none of their words indicate that those who claim this right is akin to being a part of a hate group. Wake up Gregory Spearing - Wake Up Examiner - LEARN! Until the Examiner can find someone who knows what they are talking about I suggest that you stick with what you do best, pushing out articles on what type of swim suit to wear and posting pictures of cute girls wearing them. Publishing such blatantly biased, opinionated and unfounded information identifying innocent people and groups as hate groups is akin to reckless endangerment.
~AKA Safari - Not a member of any group of any sort not even a TEA party. PROUD PATRIOT.

Dwight-AFCL>dogsbody 2012/08/07 17:28:42The Examiner+13This article is an example of the seperation between American citizens and the media. It is also an example of how the media in general works to deepen the division between Americans and of the political bias of that same media.

This is the most blatant propaganda spin (obvious in pushing DHS fear and lies)I have ever seen lately, I do NOT listen to MSM but do have friends who are REAL reporters and Journalists.
Either you have NEVER studied the well documented connections to "Oklahoma bomber" or your are one who wishes to cause or help to create a crisis and "never letting one go to waist ~ Feb 9th 2009 Rhom Emanuel"
When you "purposed" to lump ALL people who rightfully address grievances against their elected Gov as "HATE GROUPS" you have so crossed the line of defamation, reckless endangerment. to sighting hate yourself that you have DISQUALIFIED yourself as a "reporter/Journalist and become a sheer hack and a person of no value to the job you were placed to do.... You obviously are not the first kind ff Journalist mentioned in this description.
Journalism has developed a variety of ethics and standards. While objectivity and a lack of bias are often considered important, some types of journalism, such as advocacy journalism, intentionally adopt a non-objective viewpoint.
We know the American media serves its corporate masters and right now, the propaganda in the US is doing the American people so very much damage. It is up to the people to point this out as often as possible.
Dangerous propaganda? Of course. I posted a cartoon today. Karl Rove asking Plato, "But surely you must agree that if you say something often enough it becomes real".
Corporate media is almost incapable of intellectual honesty... or factual truths.
Well done.
His problem is that he doesn't know his subject and he doesn't care to learn about it. His style insinuates that he is knowledgeable, but the content of his work belies this fact.
Editors are asleep at the keyboard.
Greg Spearing is a life long political activist with a keen interest in the interplay of history, science and religion as it affects today's news and culture.
This is how he is described.
With that being said, this article sure doesn't read like an opinion. It reads as if he has made an accusation and is now trying to prove it. Using words like may, alleged and unnamed sources does not mean opinion. I hear those words used often on my local news station. You could have some one arrested for murder with a ton of physical and forensic evidence and a confession, and he would still be an alleged murderer.
You want proof that this kind of writing is damaging? Just look at your in box. There are so many unverified and/or unverifiable things being passed around as chain letters. They hit the targets in box, illicit the proper emotional response, and bingo it is passed along to the entire contact list. The story doesn't have to be told over and over. It's on the internet, it must be true.
Unfortunately common sense and most intelligence seems to end at the mouse and key board. And this is my opinion.
That being known, why even bother to refute it?
Don't you think?
temperature regs. on coffee, fat free oil for french fries, etc. well meaning but do little at best and in some cases harm the very environment they set out to protect, As in the Styrofoam containers at McDonald's. A demand that took a while to reverse, but now the planet is some better for that reversal. Or, how about the latest? Injecting cow urine into the exhaust on a diesel engine. Supposedly to be better for the exhaust converter. So, instead of a little black smoke on start up, now we have a lot of belching black smoke. Breathe deep. How will that affect all the carcinogens in diesel exhaust ? I`m a no-body, my opinion is just that. Mine. I gave up lobbying.
Conservatives want the government to control womens' uteri, whether one can buy porn or drugs, gays from marrying.
Liberals want the government to control who can get a gun, what goes in our food and what is in the air.
I'm on hold with the IRS as we speak for the harassment still since I spoke at that Tea Party Rally here. Claiming money I never earned yet they are adding interest daily yet they have made it up and I've proved my case. With them it's guilty until proving your innocence.
Just kidding.
"Never heard of Gregory Spearing before today. He isn't much of a "reporter" - is he the local gossip columnist? Sounds that way. He must be working for the Socialist Party as he is willing to slander innocent people without a shred of truth - apparently without even attempting to learn the truth. At least I now know another paper to avoid."
Later: Just sent message to the Examiner to wit:
"I take strong exception to the recent article by Gregory Spearing. He managed to slander a lot of innocent people, and were I you, I'd fire him for his obvious slanted and malicious indictment of people who have never committed a crime, who have no plans to commit a crime, who are utilizing their Constitutional rights, and who would NEVER say Mr. Spearing cannot say what he thinks - it is unconscionable, however, that any news service pays people to deliberately indict by innuendo and slander innocent people.
I understand he is doing the same thing the Obama Administration is doing. But two wrongs do NOT make a right. I would hope news sources do not deliberately do the dirty deeds for ANY U.S. Administration."
Obviously he defines "hate group" as "any group with whom he disagrees." He also supports the Obama Agenda, and thus naturally would fear any "Patriot" group.
You want to know what Patriots think? They think that guy took the fall for a four-man team, the other three members of which got away. And his death was mighty convenient. Now it's much too late to see what happens when you offer him a deck of cards and suggest he play a round of solitaire.
Your suggestion that " you know full well readers will have forgotten that by the time they reach the reckless and dangerous propaganda contained in the article" is merely insulting the intelligence of the reader.
If you can see it's an op-ed, why do you assume the rest of us can't?.
His byline describes him as a commentator, not a reporter.
If you and I can see these indicators of an opinion piece, why do you think others can't?. Maybe you should have a little more faith in the comprehension skills of the average reader, and their ability to take what they read in the media with the necessary pinch of salt, from whatever political side it comes.
If not, maybe the reader should is at fault.
