Americans say Bush still more to blame than Obama for economy--What say you?

More than two-thirds of Americans—including half of Republicans—still blame former President George W. Bush for the country's economic ills, according to a new Gallup poll released on Thursday, hours before President Barack Obama was to deliver a high-stakes speech defending his handling of the weak economy.

[Related: Swing voters down on Obama's economic policy]

What one might call the blame gap has narrowed considerably: When Gallup first asked Americans in July 2009 whom they blamed for the poor economy, 80 percent laid a great deal or a moderate amount of blame on Bush, and only 32 percent blamed Obama. The current numbers show 68 percent of the public blames the former president while 52 percent say Obama deserves the blame. (The numbers total more than 100 percent because the question was not "which one do you blame more," but how much blame each president deserves individually.)

The Democratic president has crisscrossed the country in recent months pleading for patience from voters still struggling in the anemic recovery and grappling with stubbornly high unemployment above 8 percent. In his speeches, Obama makes a point of blaming Bush and Republicans in general for the 2007-2008 meltdown and warns that Mitt Romney's economic program resembles the Bush approach "on steroids."

Among independents, who often play a role in deciding elections, 51 percent assign Obama a great deal or a moderate amount of blame, while 47 percent say he deserves not much or no blame at all. Meanwhile, 67 percent of independents say Bush bears a great deal or a moderate amount of the fault. Only 32 percent exonerate him in whole or in part. (more...)

No matter how you look at it, Obama has had 4 full years to make things right. Including 2 years with a super majority in both the House and Senate. The Democrats could have passed ANYTHING they wanted to. This is his economy at this point.

The fact of the matter is the economy is a disaster Obama has proven he has no answer to solve the problem or for some reason purposely not trying to. So for three years he parties nightly on our dime and expects us to put up with this B.S. another four years Destroying any chance of our children to live their life in anything other than poverty. Some liberals may think this is the life,But the majority of America has seen enough and a landslide defeat is in the making Sweet talk all he wants ,But he`s one and done

I seriously doubt this poll. I don't think a majority of Republicans believe Bush is primarily responsible for the current state of the economy. Given that large disconnect, the rest is suspect as well.

I say the propaganda is working.... It's also common practice to blame the exiting president for everything as they welcome in the new savior. The thing with 2012 is they didn't pick our next savior for us yet and Ron Paul could end this whole kept Govt hogwash. They won't scrape it all off on Obama this time because Mitt isn't guaranteed to take his place. They have to praise Obama to prevent Paul if Mitt looks to weak to continue with their works in progress. Basically they have to fight for the seated candidate unless they own the next one also, if they own the next candidate they scrape all the hate and controversy onto the seated president to deify the next one freeing him up for more abusable trust from the people. Hence why we hate Bush and love Obama despite them having similarly devastating terms of office. Obamas presidency is nothing particularly praise worthy.
