America Has Never Been So Divided Since The Civil War

Never since the American
Civil War have the people of the United States been so divided. The Health Care Reform law that has been
passed has rocked this nation down to its core. America is on the verge
of another civil war. Each side has it's own view of who is right and
who is wrong. But do people even understand the others view or argument?
I am just as guilty of making rants as the next without giving a valid
explanation of why I stand where I do. But do we as Americans really
want to see our nation collapse? A nation divided cannot stand. For the
sake of our children we need to handle this as one nation to truly keep
America the Land of The Free

The Left View

America Needs Healthcare

type=textFrom what I
have heard from the people that do support this law it is for the simple
reason that insurance companies
have made the price of healthcare so high that it unattainable for the
majority of America. As I was told today by someone on the left "I can't
afford to be against this bill because I stand to lose everything
without it." When I questioned him on what exactly he was saying, he
went on to explain that he is a collage graduate who up until a year ago
had a great job with health insurance
but got laid off due to company cutbacks right after his wife became
pregnant. He has since taken a job making $8.00 an hour that has
insurance (but was denied coverage due to pre-existing condition) and to
keep money coming in to provide for his family while trying to pay all
the medical bills from the birth
of his son. I think everyone in America can agree that this is a problem
that needs to be fixed.

The Right View

Our Freedom is at risk!

type=textEveryone in
America is proud to be free. The right side feels that what the health
care law has done is put the very foundation this nation was built upon
at risk. Countless veterans have made sacrifices in the welfare of their
own life or gave their own life so we the citizens of the United States
could remain free. The right side cannot accept this health care law
because it takes our choice away which takes away our freedom. We are
afraid that if the government is allowed to continue with this than
their is virtually nothing stopping them from taking more of our
choices. I think everyone in America will agree that this is a serious
problem and we need to stop it before it is to late

Change We Can Believe
In

Change can only be made
with America United

type=textThe only way
for us to unite and stand together is for both sides to compromise. We
are past blame now. Americans need to accept the responsibility to come
together to fix our nation. Our nation is corrupt and the people that
govern us have stopped listening. But does that mean that we as American
have lost our values and what America stands for? I do not have the
answers but together I am sure we can find them. Maybe I am being over
the top right now, but do we really want to see America collapse? This
is as close as it gets and I don't want to get any closer. The days
following 9/11, patriotism ran high in our nation. We stood united as a
nation and were hell bent on stopping the threat against our freedom.
Well our freedom is threatened again, and need to come together again to
protect it . I just pray that we all realize that once we do stand up
for our freedom that we have a obligation to fix the things that we
agreed to compromise on or we will all end up back here again.

I don't think we can really say the health care reform is the cause of the unrest. A lot of things have led up to this division. With the economy the way it is and the worst recession in 70 years, many people are very afraid and some of that has turned into anger.

The title is simply absurd. It is a lie.

I agree that healthcare reform is kind of like the straw that broke the camel's back, but that things have been brewing for a while. Here's the thing though. At least during the Civil War it was North v. South. Crazy Republicans are spread throughout all 50 states. If there was a second Civil War, how would the states be divided? Would there just be constant bloodshed in practically every street? That's unimaginable.

It is unimaginable. It would be neighbors against neighbors.

Healthcare reform is just the latest item to highlight the growing divide. The fundamental disagreement, as I see it, is one of the role of government itself and what we consider human rights versus what are privileges each of us must earn.

I hear people on the left willing to discuss this on the basis of the issues, but I do not hear that from the right. Instead, I hear socialist, Nazi, and worse. We aren't going to come to nay agreements by hurling insults.

The civil war was the bloodiest war in US history, claiming 600,000 lives. Imagine how bloody the next one would be when it isn't between separate regions of the country but rather between next-door neighbors. It's time for everybody who has gotten so angre and convinced of their own rightness to calm down and start honestly debating issues instead of issuing insults and chanting talking points.

That's just it there has been no conpromise it was shoved done our throats. I am all for national health care, but national health care this isn't it's a tax base and a way to let the insurance companies keep milking us dry. Your side wins so you can now say can't we conpromise. When people are allowed to steal elections, including the DNC giving someone all the undecided votes so he could win the primary how can we do anything but take sides. Sorry I was on the liberal side until Berry Hoover signed the one bill little george w refused to sign because it was a discrimination tax, passed the democrat wish list and called it stimulus. He continues to help the banks and the bankers are getting hugh bonses. You guys did a great job of picking the best republcan dicater money could buy.

This anger is something that has been building for decades, Taxation and a government that does not listen to the people are to blame. This healthcare nitemare is just like pouring more gas on an out of control fire. I think that both sides will agree that there needed to be changes in our health system. How we got there was the fight. The left wanted the government to take control, and the right wanted to reform the existing system. The majority of the people wanted to try fixing our existing system rather than burden future generations with any more debt yet that option was not on the table. Add to this back room deals, congressmen being bought and Pelosi and Obama with their sky is falling crap and they have started a movement that we have never seen before in this country. If that is not bad enough they will not let the dust settle before it is off to immigration reform. The majority of the people both right and left feel the same way, our number 1 concern should be jobs and the economy, when those two are righted all else will fall into place. This out of control spending is only going to hurt the people both today and in the future yet nobody in DC cares. Our great grandchildren will pay the bill and if we are not carefull they will never be able to enjoy the America tha...

Come November we need to find candidates that have a record of listening to the people they represent and understand the concept of fiscal responsibility. These out of control representitives need to be fired.

I agree with Caroline. I think things started going downhill before the health reform bill passed -- even before it began being debated.

during Lyndon Johnson's tenure we were at odds with each other. again during Reagan's.
some folks saw the 60's and 70's as being as divided as this time is. others were happy with the direction the country was going. you can pretty well reverse the groups during Reagan's administration.

I absolutely agree with you, though, that we must learn to compromise now or the problems we are encountering will only escalate.
to quote Dylan -- "nobody's right if everybody's wrong.'

.....what is unfortunate and sad,is how the loonie fringe is sounding an actual "call to arms"........ a good example of the real level of ignorance that is prevalent within our society today. We would do well to remember that when LBJ passed medicare and civil rights legislation, rhetoric of the same type as today echoed from the rafters.....the 9/11 "patriotism" thing has been ran into the ground, and look what it got us....... two ridiculous military involvements that have only resulted in huge unneeded losses of life and unbelievable debt............. all this "Civic Pride" and new found "Patriotism" seems a little suspect to me, where was all of this fervor while the last administration was running us into the ground? The Corporate world, by way of their powerful Lobby "own" our govt.,plain and simple,we have become a fascist state, and all the flag waving and U.S.A. chanting and patriotic chest thumping, isn't going to change this, you can run all of the current politicians out of Washington, and replace them with new faces and no sooner than that is done they will be "owned" also. same old game different day........and ain't nothin going to change it
