Amateur Hour at State
by Jim Emerson, staff writer
Last Tuesday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton accused the Russians of delivering attack helicopters to the Syrian regime. (1) While attending a question and answer session at the Brookings Institution she said the U.S. was “concerned about the latest information we have that there are attack helicopters on the way from Russia to Syria.” (4) Insinuating that the Russians were arming Syria to kill its own civilians in order to quell a peaceful upraising but she left out an important detail.
The British press reported that the helicopters were refurbished and was being returned to Syria. (2) State department and Pentagon officials had to admit that helicopters weren’t being supplied to Syria but were being returned after being overhauled and refused to identify the type of helicopter being returned. An angry Russian foreign minister, Sergey V. Lavro accused the Obama administration of hypocrisy by selling weapons to other Gulf States that can be used against “peaceful demonstrators” for example the uprisings in Bahrain. The Syrian civil war further strained relations between the United States and Russia. Sectary Clinton and Minister Lavro pressed the reset button in 2009 as a phony effort to improve the relationship allegedly damaged by the Bush Administration. This is the latest incident has exposed the 2016 presidential hopeful of being lacking the ability to handle foreign affairs.
In an attempt to spin the story Clinton withheld the fact as a desperate attempt to pressure Russia into accepting a UN backed plan to remove President Assad from power. (3) The state department tried to spin Clinton’s spin by insisting that even though the helicopters have been returned they will be used to kill civilians in staged events orchestrated by muslin extremists. (6) However, the use of helicopters in Syria hasn’t been more than anecdotes without any solid proof outside of intelligence channels. When pressed for additional information concerning the helicopters the White House plays the classified card. It looks like the only secret the White House keeps. (5)
Next Week President Obama will attend the G20 summit in Mexico where he will meet with Vladimir Putin and during that meeting the Russian President will look into the eyes of a narcissist amateur who is the head of a collection of amateurs. Russia has stated several times that it doesn’t want outside interference in Syria and there is nothing Obama can do about it. Its time to let the Syrian tyrant and the extremists fight it out, neither side is going to honor any agreement from the UN or anyone else.
