In 2007, Amanda Knox was sent to prison for allegedly murdering her flatmate, Meredith Kercher, while living abroad in Italy. In 2009 she was convicted of the murder and sentenced to 26 years, but two years later the conviction was overturned. The details of the case were widely disputed, and the surrounding controversy turned her into something of a celebrity (or anti-celebrity, if you prefer). Now the 24-year-old has signed a book deal, and The Associated Press reports that it could be worth around $4 million.
Publisher HarperCollins announced Thursday, "Knox will give a full and unflinching account of the events that led to her arrest in Perugia and her struggles with the complexities of the Italian judicial system. Aided by journals she kept during her imprisonment, Knox will talk about her harrowing experience at the hands of the Italian police and later prison guards and inmates. She will reveal never before-told details surrounding her case, and describe how she used her inner strength and strong family ties to cope with the most challenging time of her young life." How about a little Ayn Rand.....
The spread of evil is the symptom of a vacuum. Whenever evil wins, it is only by default: by the moral failure of those who evade the fact that there can be no compromise on basic principles.
