Almost 44 million was spent on the Wisconsin recall election. Should unions be proud or hang their head in shame?

I have never seen a bigger tantrum in my life. Walker was not guilty of anything other than bringing prosperity back to Wisconsin, but the liberals couldnt stand that. He interfered with their sweetheart packages. They were getting paid more to do less with cadalac healthcare plans and sweet pensions- all on the public dime. It was unsustainable, so Walker did something.

His actions werent even that drastic. He let people make their own decisions about union membership. Since then people have been leaving the unions in droves- willingly. Sounds me like the libs need to stop crying and actually work for their salary, which is still higher than their private sector counterparts.

The entire fiasco is a black mark on the state. Fake doctor's notes, teachers abandoning their classes, destruction of the state capitol, death threats, cowardly (non) representatives fleeing to IL, the bogus recall signatures, etc etc etc
The re-election of Walker has been the only thing that has shown that sanity is not dead in WI. Congratulations to the gov and to the taxpayers and the voters of WI.

So typical of the thug, ignorant liberal unions to waste money, simply for the sake of trying to force their way against those who oppose them---that's the liberal way....there is NO LOW TOO LOW for these low-life's.

It was a big waste of money, but they won't care, because they figure there's plenty more money where that came from, and they're used to throwing "good money after bad" all the time! You're wasting your time if you're waiting for them to be ashamed of anything.

The unions and the democrat party should hang their heads in ashame! In this economy, the recall effort was a huge waste of money! The only good thing to come out of this, is the bigass whooping they got.

    Let's do the math.
There are 339,000 union workers in Wisconsin paying about $1000 membership dues.
That's $339,000,000 (339 million dollars) collected EVERY YEAR.
Even if union dues was half that much, that's about $170 million.
The unions hire full time political activists and lobbyists which are not considered 'campaign contributions'.
So, where's that 339 million going each year?
Wouldn't that be considered excessive profits by Liberals/Socialists /Progressives?
Shouldn't unions be taxed with all that profit?
  • captain... Cognito22 2012/06/07 13:14:58
    captainquiggle
Wait, you are talking about taxing the Unions, because you'd get so much money, but... when you look at it honestly, out of the 44 million dollars spent on that recall, how much of that was spent in UNION MONEY?

    Very little.

How much of that money came from wealthy donors who'd like to remain nameless? Why, if they can afford to throw around tens of millions of dollars out of state to help a good friend, why can't they afford a tax hike?

Oh, it hurts, I know. The rich can't afford taxes, because they're too busy with their croni---I mean, their job creation strategies.

The 'wealthy donors' are not limited to just the Right.
The fact that more money was contributed to Walker's cause than the Union's was because America sided with fiscal responsibility and stopping the plundering of state treasuries through poor representation of the taxpayers in collective bargaining.
America spoke not only with their vote but with their political contributions.

Like every true American, you should honor the democratic process . . . unless you are one of those people who disrespect the Democratic process and think voters are too stupid to decide the issues and that you have some special power that enables you to decide all matters . . . which would make you a Liberal.
  • captain... Cognito22 2012/06/07 14:46:08
    captainquiggle
Sorry, AMERICA didn't vote with their political contributions. Wealthy contributors voted with their contributions. And, this time around, YEAH, they were on the Right. And, if you happen to think that the UNIONS have more money or just as much money as the corporate elite, you're only fooling yourself. Nobody believes that crock.

This kind of thing wasn't a part of the democratic process until someone like Walker opened the floodgate up for it when he was in a similar circumstance. Votes should decide elections, not how much money you flood into the campaign.

30-plus million dollars in a state-wide campaign election is just sickening.

To think you can just throw money around and control issues is obviously a decent GOP strategy now. Thanks.
  • Cognito22 captain... 2012/06/07 15:10:09
    Cognito22
So you're sticking to the Marxist conspiracy theory, right?
The voters had nothing to do with the vote?
They were all just stupid pawns brainwashed by TV and radio commercials.
But not you. You have 'special' powers.
    LOL
  • captain... Cognito22 2012/06/07 15:50:43
    captainquiggle
Oh, and you're telling me that the campaign had nothing to do with it, which is why 30-plus million dollars were spent.

If anyone really believed that voters weren't stupid, they wouldn't have spent so much money on their campaign.

The Dems had faith in the voting public that they wouldn't fall for the heavily financed ad campaign, but... they did. Oh well.

    Good job, there.

I'm not sure YOU even know what you're talking about, right now. He spent so much money, it's unprecedented in the history of State-wide elections. Look it up. That's the truth.

He's also got at least 100k in a legal defense fund, now. That was also paid for with campaign dollars. LOL.

    Enjoy.

As I understand it, Scott Walker was merely fulfilling the campaign promises he had made in working for this legislation, and that he had won the election on. But the Demoncrats couldn't abide the attack on one of their sacred cows (unions). They should definitely hand their heads.

With three weeks to go, as of May 21, the last disclosure deadline before recall election day, Walker had raised $30.5 million, while Tom Barrett had raised $3.9 million, according to public disclosure reports tallied by the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign.

The reason Walker could exceed the state's legal limit on donations of $10,000 per donor is due to a 1987 loophole (pushed by a former state legislator who later ran afoul of the law) providing an exception for any incumbent targeted by a recall.

It's amazing what money can buy, these days, isn't it.

If you want to know what I'm talking about, instead of saying "money has nothing to do with it," you can look at the California Cigarette Tax proposal and how 68 percent approval for it in MAY OF THIS YEAR turned into 48 % by this month due to almost 50 million dollars spent by cigarette companies on ad campaigns. It's shameful.

And, you think THE PEOPLE voted on the issues? Of course not... that's what the millions of dollars spent made sure they didn't do. Great job.

At least they have a Democratic Senate in place now, so that moron can't do any more damage.
