Allen West is full of crap.

It isn't about ensuring the military vote it's about regular voters having the same amount of time to vote as the military.

This is just another fabrication from the right. Another nontroversy to distract from the real issues.

For all the Left has gone to ensuring voter rolls are not purged of dead or illegal voters, I find it instructive they make excusses about active military having trouble being able to vote.

The Liberal arguments against voter ID laws does not square with their lack of concern that known citizens may not get to cast a ballot.

Let me sure I have this correct - photo ID's to vote are not good since it disenfranchises some, proof of residency for the same reason, but our troops aren't ensured of being able to vote??? Hmm..........things ain't right here.

I think they shouldn't make laws that disenfranchise too many people. Someone in PA told me it took 4 hours to get a non driver's licence ID. Not to mention elderly (or not that elderly, like my friend born in the southern Virginia mountains) who simply do not have birth certificates are having an impossible time getting IDs.

I take my voter registration card. I have my driver's licence. But I am against disenfranchising so many people (including deployed service members). They didn't put enough thought into the laws.

It can take up hours to get a driver's license at ANY DMV - depending on the size of the city/town/county.

I know there are a few who have trouble with getting an ID, but I don't see how having an ID disenfranchises very many - an inconvenience to get one the first time, but you have to have an ID for just about anything today. Even my blind friend has a photo ID. As for service members, just the fact they are serving should basically be enough - there could be easy ways (a different standard) to provide them the opportunity to vote.

There are non citizens in the service. It isn't enough to simply be in uniform. But yes, you are right, deployment shouldn't be an obstacle to voting at *all*

I have no disrespect for them, in fact, I believe service for a set time should make it easier for them to become citizens if they want!

These are the people who protect our way of life and it is a disgrace that their right to vote has never been protected. I always hated the fact that service members are disenfranchised during presidential elections. I understand that we decided to put service to this country above our own needs but for the presidential election I think it is important that the service members voices be heard.

Lieutenant Colonel West should know, If he is worth his rank, that American Soldiers do not always get the chance to vote. I remember being stationed in Germany (noncombat) but was on a field mission which denied my privilege to vote. It was always duty first and I would have it no other way. But for him to have been in the service for so long and only now point this out is either ignorance or hypocrisy. You decide!

I'm replying to you because the coward above has apparently blocked me.

Would he have West speak out while he was in the military?? is DC Willis aware that this topic is a hot issue right now because Obama is trying to deny the military access to voting? So of course West is speaking about it in a timely manner.

Meanwhile, where is Willis' representative. I haven't heard a peep from that corner.

You do not make the rank of LTC. in one or two years. He had plenty of time to move this issue forward and up the chain of command. It has not been until he himself got involved in politics that it has become part of his agenda.

My point was that you presumed that West hasn't been doing so. The fact that you haven't dug deep enough to ascertain exactly how thoroughly West has been actively trying to remedy this, or other matters, doesn't serve to indict him in any way, shape or form.

West is one of the very few in politics who routinely stands up for our military personnel. Tell me, for example, which other pols have participated, as West has done, in protests like this:

I watched both of your videos, thank you for providing them.

This strikes home for me somewhat because I am a Veteran, U.S. Army Military Police. I understand exactly the stance taken by West but also know that there has to be a certain amount of law and regulation that governs the conduct of soldiers and operations. These laws are not flawless and at times there are a lot of gray areas where as law enforcement you know what the letter of the law states but can see justification for the soldiers actions. At the end of the day it comes down to not allowing the Armed Forces to become the monster they were sent to destroy and that is no easy task. I hope you can put yourself in my position and understand my thoughts on this.

One of the major issues that I noticed during my service is that there is to much civilian involvement. People that work 9 to 5 and sleep in the comfort of their beds influencing what happens in a military they never served in. I will give you a prime example: Service of gay people. This should have been put to a vote within all the branches of the military and the results of that vote should be respected. It should not be decided by civilians that have no clue what goes on in the services. I could go on but will cut it off here. Thanks again for the videos.

"I'm replying to you because the coward above has apparently blocked me."

I have never blocked anyone and have not even looked to see what was involved in the process of blocking people. Therefore I suggest you remember when you block people and do not call them the coward.

"is DC Willis aware that this topic is a hot issue right now because Obama is trying to deny the military access to voting? "
