James Holmes, the alleged Colorado gunman who killed 12 people and injured nearly 60 others, has formally been charged in court. The 24-year-old former post-doctorate student was charged with 142 offenses, including 24 counts of first-degree murder and 116 counts of attempted murder.

If convicted, Holmes could spend the rest of his life in jail -- or even get the death penalty, though prosecutor haven't yet revealed if they'll be seeking capital punishment on this case. Do you think the death penalty is appropriate for the alleged shooter?

ONLINE.WSJ.COM reports:
Colorado prosecutors charged former doctorate student James Holmes with 142 offenses, including 24 counts of first-degree murder, in the shooting at an Aurora movie theater.

Too bad your generation does not keep on historic events....Because during the early 70"s we did do away with the death penalty here in the U.S. and we did bring it back because there senseless countless muders in the US.....Life in prison did not mean nothing to these criminals but you should see them cry like a baby when their lights were about to be put out on the big fry daddy!

Oh that`s encouraging for your fellow Americans to read,You idiot !!!Do you know that the US is Number 5 in the list of 21 countries throughout the world that execute people as having the most victims of execution. You should take a look at the rest of the top 5.That would be embarrassing to me as an American citizen. Is there any chance you may think to yourself. What is wrong with our society that we have,in your own words "senseless countless murders "You also have the most prisoners incarcerated in the world.China has a Billion inhabitants and still cannot match your prison population.I hope that I have given you some food for thought.

When we treat our murderers and rapists better than our poor, yeah... I support the death penalty. These evil monsters can get access to radio and TV, exercise equipment, education, HEALTH CARE... and we don't even offer that to our own LAW ABIDING poor.

It's an insult to every good and law abiding citizen to keep a murderer like this alive.

I believe we as a nation should do away with convicted murderers.

We need to study this person's mind, physical brain, emotional make up, life history and more to be able to prevent this in the future.

Some one with this determination to kill randomly could have used some of his bombs or gas smoke/deadly gas bombs just as easily.

The problem is not a gun problem, Although as a Concealed Carry license holder it could be made a little bit more difficult to get some of those guns. To those who say a ccw permitte could have shot him blaaaaa inside a full darkened theater? NO trained carry person would think of firing in that situation. As to smalller magazines maybee but in the dark with this guy not picking specific targets even Spec/opps sailors/soldiers would have had a hard time finding and getting to this guy before he loaded a new clip of even 20 rounds. Yes I am a USCCA member and a Dali Lama coordinate politically making me a conservative liberal.

This is not a weapons issue IT IS A MENTAL HEALTH ISSUE, and if we kill this person we give up the opportunity to study what went wrong in his head mind and emotions to cause this tragedy. Good thoughts, good words, good actions and deeds.

I think I made this same comment on another string, but no matter... I'll be happy to say it again:

Go ahead & analyze the hell out of him. Research all you can/want. Then put a .38 caliber shell in his head.
He will never be of any positive use to this planet & is only a waste of carbon & taxpayer dollars.
We euthanize sick animals. Keeping him alive in a cage for decades is inhumane & expensive.
In my opinion, euthanization is the most humane thing we can do for him & everyone else.

Regarding this subject, those are the best thoughts, words, actions & deeds I can come up with.
  • Grammar... 2012/08/01 19:04:38

Dont use the shell, or you will need a hammer ( and you know that will get some unwanted attetion from the bleading hearts and artists). Use the bullet instead. That way, its quicker and more "humane", and you wont need to a rain coat....Just a thought....

Oh, I don't blame you. This is a subject that has ignited quite a few tempers. I have already had someone slam me, and then block me for my opinion.

I extended my sympathies to the victims, and cautioned people on spreading hate. This earned me a "Boo hoo hoo". When I inquired with why, he told me that the Torah had an idea about how to deal with this, and had I any balls, I would know too. So its been fun. I do agree that everyone has an idea of how to deal with it, but this is definitely drawing lines in the sand....Just a thought...

PS...If you have read my work, you probably know that he got ignorant, and I called him on it. That angered him more, so he attacked, and I reacted with a verbal bitch slapping....hence the block...

I agree completely. Very well stated. I actually enjoy having my opinion challenged, simply because it allows my naturally fastidious ( alright, anal) nature to go to work. Now I will not swear to not being a bit juvenile from time to time. Occasionally, one must take a cheap shot to raise someones ire, and get them to show true face. I seem to have this knack for getting into it with people driven by, dependent on, or the victim of false information.
I will admit that I love the truth, and am willing to go a bit (and occasionally more than a bit to) far, to reach that truth. Motivation by fear, false or misleading information or stupidity, makes me (actually, drives me to), want to fix it. Most everyone I know, considers me to be a driven investigator, simply because I will search and research, until I uncover the truth. My wife and I both are fastidious in our nature, and don't rest until we find what we're after. My wife's subject is lost genealogy. She is amazing, when it comes to finding the lost or unknown. Together, we have developed an intense, effective style of search and destroy, to reach our end.

I will also agree with your take on blocking. An example. I make a post to the Colorado slayings. I am greeted from this poster with "Boo hoo hoo". Now as I said in previo...

I was willing to give him his minute, but I wanted an explanation. When he furthered his grievous attempt to slander and belittle my position, I did, verbally bitch slap him. He actually sends me mail, to let me know that he has blocked me. I am also under permanent block, and banned to the outer rim by "Art", for daring to show disagreement and then contempt for his mundanity. The real crime there, is that Art is an intelligent guy, and would be fun to debate with. Unfortunately, he is too narcissistic, and looses very poorly.

This raises, for me, a nagging question. Why do people choose to quote belief or religion, as their source of inspiration, and then show hate and contempt for virtually everything, in that religions name? Further, what makes them think that rational, thinking people, are going to sit idly by, and not question their motivations and opinions? Anyhow, I have written a bit of a diatribe, and will give you eyes a chance to rest...Thanks for the response...Peace

I've encountered Art on a few occasions.
He has me blocked for disagreeing with him as well... & I think he got intensely angry when I proved him wrong with evidence to back up what I said. He is definitely a sore loser... & you really hit the nail on the head at narcissistic.

I also agree with your comments on religious people. Also on the Aurora shooter's question, I find loads of people who use their religious belief as grounds to not make the guy go splat against some concrete. That's fine, but what I've observed over years & years is that those people who are the most religious are usually the most afraid of dying. They want everyone to live forever. I've witnessed people go to some really incredible lengths to avoid having to die or to keep someone else alive, even if the person is "alive" only because of machines or is otherwise brain dead. I simply do not understand at all. I would think that those who "believe" would be a little bit happy or relieved a the thought of going off to "paradise" & meeting "The Maker." I mean, I understand not wanting to die & I understand missing dead loved ones, of course. But this obsession with preventing abortion, prolonging old people's lives further, keeping terminally people alive with no quality of life & being against capital pu...&&&&

If gawd is good & loving & forgiving, then why are His believers so afraid to meet Him & afraid for anyone else to meet Him? What the hell is so awful & terrifying about death?
Religious people strike me as being the most hypocritical about most things anyway, so I suppose it's actually par for the course.

He should be put to death ASAP. He new what he was doing and he planed it, look at how he booby trapped his apartment. He came from money and it wouldn't surprise me if his parents tried to buy his love instead of showing him love. And if that is the case they helped him buy what he needed to kill innocent people. I don't think it is right for any tax payer to pay for him to be alive after what he did. I also think his mother knew that some thing was wrong with him. When she was told it was reported that she said "you got the right man, I need to call the police".

Absolutely. All those saying no should consider that there is no closure for the victims families as long as this tool is breathing. He will likely appeal anything he can, and there will be parole hearings. I lost a brother to violent crime with a capital murder conviction, life with no parole for 30 years. That's BS, he had a parole hearing within 8 years and in the first 19 years he has had 3 Each time we get notified, then my sisters, parents, and myself all write letters to the parole board, and every time it is truly devestating to my mother who goes into a deep deep depression wondering if he will be paroled and reliving the trial, where all the details of the murders were discussed, and we had to stare at the person who took a loved one from us. Think about that for a minute.

    & what is this guy?
    He's a mass murderer.
He fits in your own classification of deserving.
Were he to have killed/injured one of your personal loved ones, your response would surely be different.

As young, idealistic person, I respect your voice. However, I encourage you to consider other perspectives, including the financial impact this person is going to have on the state of Colorado. The People are going to have to pay for his living, his therapy & his education, should he choose to continue while imprisoned. He will never contribute a positive thing to society... never. He is lost. We euthanize sick animals to put them out of their misery & consider it inhumane to prolong their life. Why is keeping a very sick man in a cage for several decades considered in any way humane by anyone. It makes no sense.
