Akin's Rape Remark Draws Tea Party Pressure: Will Akin's Comment Cost Romney Missouri's Electoral Votes?

Mainstream media has dog-piled on senatorial candidate Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO) for his comment about "legitimate rape." Akin has apologized for his comment, but the media will not let it pass, which has caused many Republicans and Tea Party members to put pressure on Akin to drop out of the race.

Some polls suggest that Akin's comment may adversely affect Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in Missouri. Voters may show up to vote against Akin and Republicans may not show up to vote for Akin. Both of these actions could increase the votes for Obama and give Missouri's electoral votes to Obama.

"I've really made a couple of serious mistakes here that were just wrong, and I need to apologize for those," Akin said. Do you think Akin's comments will give Missouri's electoral votes to Obama -- and hurt Romney in the process?

ABCNEWS.GO.COM reports:
Pressure mounted on Rep.Todd Akin to quit his Missouri Senate race today despite his repeated refusals to step down over his incendiary comments about rape.

Romney is ahead in Missouri by at least 7 points in many polls ... and I seriously doubt this one particular incident, as regrettable as it is, is going to significantly change that. Especially in an election that will be predominantly about jobs.

In today's 24-hour news cycles, a lot will happen between now and early November that will push this whole Akin thing off the radar.

The liberals' attempts to score political points from this will not succeed. Is what Akin said any more despicable than what Biden said about Republicans wanting to re-enslave black people?

I don't think so. It was an atrocious accusation, and it was much worse than what Akin said.

Akin was just being stupid, and he's apologized for what he said. Biden was being absolutely hateful, and he hasn't apologized at all. Let's remember that, everyone.

Oh, come on now. Look at the poll numbers - McCaskill, who trailed Akin between 1 and 9 points in every poll, is now ahead by 10 points. Republican women are intelligent folks, but sometimes it takes an extreme remark to get them to think for themselves.

I have a feeling Romney will distance himself from this idiot fairly swiftly, and it won't be hard to do. I don't support Romney for president, but the fact that this guy is in the same party as him is not likely to do much against his campaign in a red state.

I think you're right in general, but the fact that Ryan as Romney's running mate worked with Akin on redefining "rape" as only "forcible rape" will potentially make Romney's job tougher among moderates. Honestly, I'm not a Romney supporter but find it unfair to lump him personally in with idiots like Akin on the fringes. Ryan was a necessity ticket balancer in today's GOP. However...reality is. This will have some effect on the ticket with undecideds because of H. R. 212.

But maybe not, Akins spoke what the republican agenda is about. And the only reason he's taking heat for the truth he spoke is because he said it out loud. If he wouldn't had got comfortable and loose tongue it would be business as usual with controlling a women's body.

If you're really an Israelite, forgotten or not, WHY would you be a leftist? The Obamidiot blatantly disrespected Mr. Netanyahu and is for getting rid of Israel! I don't see why any Jew would vote for a damn dumb dem! I'm a Christian and would do anything in my power to protect the state of Israel. Part of it is to vote for people who feel the same way.

First of all Betty, President Obama never disrespected Netanyahu and he doesn't and never gave any notion of getting rid of Israel. And for you to claim the title as Christian is all that is because you don't speak like a Christian. And lastly, yes, I'm a Israelite which is in no way connected to in anyway to the people living over there in Israel We are two different sets of people.

Holy Cow! Betty - you need to turn off that Fox News and go do your research. The majority of Jews in this country support Obama, and for good reason. Obama's issues with Israel were drummed up by the right wing and don't reflect actual fact.

Romney and Ryan, only have one goal. Take care of the 1percent They lie to get you to vote for them. Don't listen to what they say, look at their past history. Romney will destroy communities to get richer. Ryan is all about taking care of his own self. He worships the sociopath Ayn Rand. Ryan wants to roll back women's rights. Both are " I got mine and screw you too." guys. They support legislation that will strip mine wealth from common hard working American families. Their ideas will decay the Common Good. They only support the the Oligarchs.

It should not but it might. This is a prime example of the hypocrisy of the democrat party and the mainstream media. When a republican makes a mistake in speaking, a slip of the tongue a slight confussion of talk and speech which does not state what he really means it gets so blown out of proportion that he has to be axed out of a position he is vastly more qualified for then Claire Mcaskil YET the keynote speaker of the democrat convention for the is their idol , one of their highly held leaders WHO ACTUALLY DID RAPE SOMEONE Bill "I did not have sex with that woman" Clinton no democrat has a problem with that and no mainsteam media liberal suck ass has the courage to bring that up. Not to mention Ted (Mary Jo Who? Kennedy or John ( my wife dont have long to go ) edwards, all darlings of the democrat party. The democrats are the biggest bunch of two faced hypocrites ever and the mainstream media are cowards.

It is funny how the MSM only has a hysterical fit when a republican says something stupid. I didn't see a big frenzy from them about that joke of a VP biden saying republicans wanted to put black people back into chains, the sad part is the democrats always blame the republicans for what the dems do and the biased media lets them get away with it.

He didn't say that, this is where republicans took the contents and twisted it as usual. He said wall street will put the chains on everybody. Meaning the republicans wants to allow wall street total freedom of gambling with our money with no regulations. Nothing to do with slaving black people.

Yes he was, he said a women's body would shut down like some robot only if it;s a legitimate rape. And Ryan say's it must be a forcible rape and Willard shares his beliefs. So a woman should carry her rapist child regardless. This is what my sister's have to face if Willard and Ryan is elected

Actually, Ryan has signed legislation saying just that. Perhaps you should do a bit more reading before you extol your opinions without any evidence. Does that mean the man must be convicted of forcible rape in order for a woman to have access to an abortion? I guess just taking the whore's word for it is not enough, she probably wanted it rough, they are all sluts and stupid, therefore it is up to us men to should decide for them on who needs healthcare and birth control and abortions, Right? That is your position if you vote for those two. I pity the women in your family.

C'mon astec, what am I lying about when it comes to Ryan? Paul Ryan has been forced to defend his record on abortion. When asked by a Pittsburgh TV station about the legislation he co-sponsored in 2011 that differentiated between rape and "forcible rape," Ryan responded, “Rape is rape. Rape is rape, period. End of story.” Not if you're running on a platform that bans abortion without exceptions for rape or incest. Ryan also denied charges that his ticket would limit the availability of contraception to women: "Nobody is proposing to deny birth control to anybody." That's exactly what Ryan attempted to do by co-sponsoring (with Akin) of the Sanctity of Life Act of 2009, which granted full legal rights to fertilized eggs and banned abortions and many types of birth control.
