Airline Tests Mood-Based Seating: Smart or Silly?

Any time you buy tickets for a plane flight, unless your family reserves an entire row, you're putting yourself at great risk. We're not talking about the plane going down -- the odds of that happening are absurdly low. But the odds of sitting next to someone you don't want to sit next to are much, much worse. That's why airBaltic is experimenting with a mood-based seating system, to give passengers a chance to narrow down their seating buddies.

According to The New York Daily News, "SeatBuddy" gives passengers four different "flight moods" to choose from: business talk, easy chat, work, and relax. A seating algorithm then takes those choices into account when assigning seats. The program also offers optional detailed matching by age, language, career, interests, etc. It's like a temporary social media profile, just for that flight. Does it sound like something you'd want to try?

If it means paying more to fly, then yes, it is not economical nor is it necessary!!!

BUT, does it ask you for your weight? I always get the big fat lady that hasn't showered for a month sitting next to me. Then she has to get up 4 times during the flight to piss.

Nice for them to consider it, but it wouldn't really change anything. Maybe it could even make things more complicated.

I enjoy reading a good book while I fly. I do not care where I sit and it sounds like an excuse to increase costs.

You got that right. It would seem more appropriate to be moo-ing when they herd us on to the plane.

Neither really. I can see how it would be useful, but I don't think people usually have people problems when flying. Most people are just trying to keep to themselves.

I seldom ever talk to people when I fly. I may read or listen to music. I found that when I put on the ear phones and read people seem to not bother me as well. Some of the times I am not even listing to music.

I usually talk with the people I am sitting next to so I don't need the airline to choose someone for me. Just give me back all the perks that you have taken away from
me and I will be in a better "mood" !

I always try to get the same seat every time: The window seat in the Exit Row because that row has more legroom and I'll usually fall asleep leaning against the window so I am not concerned who sits next to me.

I travel quite a bit and have had issues with just one male passenger who came and sat next to me on a multiple stop international flight back in 2005. Had a problem because because he began molesting and touching within 15 minutes of boarding and just called the flight attendant and told them to move him to another seat far away from me before anything else happened and told them in definitive terms I wasnot moving as I was here first. It was a slap on the man's face as everyone saw his move and got the picture of what happened from the air hostess not me. I just told them silently this was what I needed done, although the two seats in front and back of me heard what happened and insulted him.
I have never had a problem with anyone on flight prior to that except once at age eight where some bloke sitting behind me began tickling me from the crevices in between the seat and again, had to be moved off and another wanted to put her legs on top of my seat as she wanted to stretch out. I actually got up went to her seat pressed the recliner button and told her enjoy yourself and comforting my grandmother who was on board with me and going home as a new widow.

Fact, no matter how much of precaution you take with regard to seat planning, one has to understand the personality and the behaviour of the person is not seen irrespective of the moods. These are the elements that determine if you are going to have a safe flight too not just a worrisome co-passenger who talks too much (simple remedy entertain for two minutes and slip my iPod on) although I tend to ask for a seat with no co-passenger by my side as I love to stretch out and I get it, most of the time as I love the window seat and hate being boxed in but do adjust. Always been the case since my first travel alone.
