AIG sparks "Lifestyles of the Rich & Infamous" tour
Fri Mar 20, 2009 6:55pm EDT

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A small political party angry at bonuses paid to staff of bailed out insurance giant American International Group is organizing a bus tour to the Connecticut homes of several AIG executives. "We're all mad at AIG," the Connecticut Working Families Party, a small liberal party, said on its Web site, inviting people to sign up for its "Lifestyles of the Rich and Infamous" bus tour and a rally at the company's Wilton, Connecticut, headquarters, on Saturday. "Their executives bear a large share of the responsibility for bringing the economy to its knees, and now the same folks are getting hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses -- at our expense," the website said.

Hefty bonuses paid to AIG executives after a $180 billion government bailout have sparked outrage. The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday approved a bill taxing such payments at a 90 percent rate, but the Senate has yet to act. AIG employees have expressed concern about the safety of workers who were paid a total of $165 million in bonuses. Some AIG executives have received death threats. AIG did not have any immediate comment.

A spokesman for the Connecticut Working Families Party declined to say which AIG executives would be visited on the tour. He said the bus would hold about 50 people.

i can understand the emotional fervor that has been stirred towards AIG, But, I do think if the bus tour wants to make a real honest point, they should equally tour the homes of the Senators and Reps who 'allowed' the Bonus fiasco in the first place.

I honestly believe this is a Washington, DC ruse to turn the eye away from where culpability really lies...in Washington, DC. The ones that loosened the credit markets to allow these industries to lend money to support risky ventures. They promoted this behavior when it was cranking up the economy and when their political action committees' pockets were lined by these groups. Now the tables turn and they are attacking them... The culprits know who they are and should be worried... DODD, just to name one

From all indications this was cooked up by the "Connecticut Working Families Party", a small left wing third party group. If that's the case they don't seem like the kind of group that would be collaborating with Washington insiders. (Besides, Obama's "not liberal enough" anyway LOL)

And I completely agree with you about Chris Dodd. He's up for re-election next year and I seriously doubt he will survive.

Georgia congressman says Democrats are using their "manufactured" outrage over taxpayer-funded executive bonuses for AIG to rationalize expanding government's role in the lives and businesses of Americans.

The outrage seems real, and when the ultraconservative New York Post is hyping it, I doubt it's a Democratic "plot".

Bills of Attainder are wholly unconstitutional. But then, 95% of what the Feds do any more is equally unconstitutional. Good-bye, America! Sure was fun before the political weasels ruined it!

I'm guessing, but its sponsored by the "Connecticut Working Families Party" so I assume they're paying for it. They probably "ask" for contributions.

yes in fact one would like to say put the mf's against the wall.
this is not the correct way but very satisfying to think it. It is not their fault that they are greedy mindless amoral people . They are a product of society just as much as the street bum. The sad thing is that with all their talent, wealth and opportunity most of them pursue a life of self centredness. The ME culture of the 80's. They should be using their skills to help the weak in society, to improve society for everyone. But they dont and as such they are as much parasites as the people on long term welfare.

Unless you own stock in AIG, what they do on a corporate level is none of your concern really. I know, they took bailout money, but I think it was stupid to reward dumbass executives who could not keep their firm out of the red to begin with. Rewarding failure seems to be a theme lately. Bailout the failures, and punish the successful firms by taxing them to death.

Unfortunatley, just because they took the money, does not mean that Obama all the sudden gets a vote at their board of directors meetings now either. They are a private firm that is accountable only to their shareholders. Those that do not like it have the option to dump their stock.

Eighty percent of the stock of AIG is owned by the federal government... in other words, the taxpayers own that particular corporation.
