Ron Paul is consistently giving A+ grades by the National Taxpayer's Union and Gun Owners of America
But why do many conservatives not like him, because the media tries to point out the only policies he's not modern-day conservative on, and that's his foreign policy (which he doesn't believe we should leave countries alone, we should be diplomatic and encourage free trade, and avoid military action if we can, and if we can't get the support of congress) and his policy on the war on drugs (which I still can't believe how many people support)
Now Mitt Romney on the other hand has spoken out against many conservative issues
Romney throughout his political career has been
Pro-Choice
Pro-Gun laws
Pro-Mandates (Health Insurance, etc.)
and Pro-Bailouts
So I will still vote Romney if he wins the nomination
BUT
until then I will be against Romney
and even if he wins the nomination I will not be fooled into believing he's conservative.

Ron Paul does want a strong and robust military, he just doesn't want to be sending the overseas every minute.
The abortion issue you have him on, but it brings up the topic of should the fetus have rights. If you think yeah than you're just as liberty minded as one who thinks the mother should decide.
Actually Woodrow Wilson created the Fed. And no Ron Paul doesn't want to do away with it. He knows that getting rid of a central bank right away will cause damage to an economy that has gotten used to fiat currency. So the only changes he would do that is put it back into the hands on the governent. Now I know what you're thinking don't libertarians dislike the government, well libertarians dislike centralization more. Libertarians don't like centralization of power, centralization of wealth. And if the fed were in the hands on the government it would be so reckless about it's printing and spending. But it still means the government will still spend which needs to be cut.
And the drug war. No Ron Paul does not want people to do any drugs. He just sees how the war on drugs has not really done anything in the creation and use of drugs. And it has spent time and resources fighting a cause that is hard to defeat.
