I left a comment on the website on how I felt about this report;
"Next time you should try to work for a building contractor, You'll find just as many illegal aliens and get paid more money.
It's a cliche that Illegal labor only exists in farm fields, The
Illegal aliens in my area are living pretty good. Next time you want to
run a story like this try and make it a little less biased toward your
assumptions as to what's going on in the world.
This report was very shocking to me, I like to watch AC360 and have
always thought it to be fair but after watching this I'm disgusted with
the shift from the story too simple story telling.
There is a path for citizenship for each one of those workers, Visa
programs, green cards, etc. But it costs money, farmers certainly
don't want to do the right thing and pay for it and the workers are
stuck in a cycle (borderline slave labor, next time ask one of them what
happens when they complain too much about the pain of working there,
OSHA has laws preventing this kind of treatment!) where they can't
afford to pay for it.
The ONLY winners of this entire system is Business. Because of their
status these workers have to use tax payer funded Social services. So
what you have in a situation where Business can employ a group of people
with no legal or social financial repercussions. Supporting this
activity only puts you in the same category as those who choose to
exploit them.
I apologize for the randomness of this comment but the Issue is MUCH bigger then a few people picking grapes."
