On Saturday night, ABC veteran Barbara Walters fell and cut her forehead. The 83-year-old newswoman was attending an inauguration party at the residence of Britain’s ambassador to the United States when the accident occurred.

In an effort to be cautious, Walters went to the hospital to have her cut treated and to have a full examination. According to ABC News spokesman Jeffrey Schneider, Walters was alert and was “telling everyone what to do, which [they all took] as a very positive sign.”

Walters was the first female news superstar; she made headlines in 1976 by landing an unprecedented $1 million annual network anchor salary. Walters is known for her decades of exclusive interviews and for creating the hit weekday talk show ‘The View’ in 1997.

And Walters is one tough cookie. After her heart surgery in May 2010 she quickly bounced back and now in her ninth decade she continues to keep a busy schedule.

Not necessarily. Many people just don't find celebrities, especially news people, to be people worth admiring. It's not as if she has done anything great for mankind, like King or Ghandi, or invented anything useful. There's really nothing particularly special about her, or any of the rest of the talking heads on TV. All she does is interview people. So what? Why would anyone admire her for that?

Because without interview there would be a lot we would not know about, and she has interviewed a lot of politicians and foreign leaders.

Well, that's her job, just like it's my mechanic's job to fix my car. It certainly doesn't elevate her to the level of someone who people should "admire". People want to have her interview them because they know she won't ask really tough questions. She does what they call "fluff pieces". Her interviews may be interesting to some people, but it's not like they help us all in any significant way. It's just entertainment. You should save your admiration for people who really matter, like those who risk their lives for us every day.

At one time I had some respect for her, nit not anymore. She is the type that let her fame go to her head. She needs to give it up and retire on all her millions that she made off others and their problems.
