BOSTON — A woman’s cat was taken to the veterinarian for a flea bath, but instead, it was euthanized.

The woman’s son says he unknowingly authorized the cat to be put to sleep after he was given the wrong forms.

The veterinarian has passed all comments reguarding the matter to his attorney.

The son should've read what he was asked to sign BEFORE signing it. >.>

I would have to see an actual copy of the consent form that he signed before I could decide who was at fault. But I'm leaning towards the vet's fault. The son should have read what he was signing and if he didn't understand the form, he should have asked questions, but as a medical provider (to pets), it is the vet's responsibility to make sure the pet owner KNOWS & understands what they are signing and and make sure that they verbalize understanding.

Granted to you should never sign anything without reading first, but what kind of a vet doesn't explain the procedure that the cat was going to receive. When I had to put my cat to sleep I was explained everything that was going to happen before hand and was asked if I wanted to be with her as she was being put down. Something doesn't sound right.

I would be heartbroken but it's human to err. I wouldn't sue them PROVIDED they gave me free food for a replacement animal for 5 years. I think that would be a mutually acceptable arrangement. It's not like they did it on purpose.

Holy hell. WHY on earth did they not have any communication with this kid that signed the papers. You would think SOMEONE would have talked to a pet owner that was having it's beloved put down. Where's the bedside manner! I would think, to any of their "customers" they would at least talk to the owner, maybe offer kind words, explain the procedure, SOMETHING! Totally the office's fault and I feel awful for the poor kid that probably feels guilt ridden after accidently offing the family pet.

He does have the responsibility to read the papers before signing. Bottom line is the son gave them permission. Had he not signed any papers then I would say it is the vets fault.

The vet is to blame and should reimburse her for the cost of the cat.

Also, the customer should not have to pay the bill for the euthanasia.
