I don't understand how we can legalize tobacco which kills over 400,000 people every year and alcohol which kills 85,000 every year yet we still consider marijuana to be more dangerous then either.
No death have been attributed to marijuana.
Aspirin kills more people then marijuana about 7,500 every year.
Even if Marijuana was dangerous wouldn't our government want to regulate instead of some drug cartel. If marijuana was made legal we would take the tax profits from drug cartel essentially shutting them down.

Yet, we would rather spend billions on a drug war that we aren't winning instead of spending that money on fixing our budget in California.

Even if we don't legalize marijuana at least stop the drug war.

Great answer and in addition a so called "War on Drugs" that has been going on for decades and has accomplished nothing. I agree.

Isn't it sad that the drug war is supposedly based on research yet when research finds that the drug war does more harm then good they ignore it.

Yep, the so called 'drug' war is nothing more than fundraising efforts for the lawyers, corrections officers, police, and jails. That is who has profited off of this. But that's just my opinion.

I agree, the drug war is failure except to those who are profiting from it.

I can walk to any high school and find any drug I want, its disgusting.

That is so true. I often ask people who don't want drugs legalized, "name me one person that could get that drug if it were legal that can not get it now." At least there would be controls and help in place as there is with alcohol and tobacco. Thanks :)

I don't smoke anything: Legal or otherwise. Still, there are legitimate medical uses. Recreationally speaking, it's probably less dangerous than alcohol. Legalize it and tax it like cigarettes and alcohol, unless medically prescribed.

If we were to legalize cannabis and have it taxed, making it cheaper like when prostitution was legalized in NewZealand, the people previously growing the cannabis illegally would go onto something heavier say a class A drug to cultivate or make, such as P drug, more of that being available means more peoples lives being vulnerable to being messed up. I'd be hesitant before making the move, not totally sure that would be the reaction, probably need to do more research on other countries. :-)

Despite being known to have medical advantages the government conducts a war on dope that is not working and is pissing away money as it is more widely used than before and costs the tax payer a fortune in money that makes no difference and is not properly utilised.

I just came home from a holiday to Amsterdam where it is regulated and taxed, it doesn't cost the buyer more as you pay less with tax than you would street prices and it is controlled, it is not cut with industrial oil (hash) and it frees up prison space and stops the crime which is related to trafficking of drugs, besides it is no more harmful than cigarettes and alcohol, (I'm sorry, but anyone who says any different has not properly researched it, smoked it or even considered any statistics) and when the government can claim tax from it you are making, not spending and police and prison for cannabis.

Cannabis has been smoked throughout history and in many cultures is an everyday part of life. And it is not psychologically addictive.

The health benefits outweigh the almost non-existent negatives, sure everybody knows someone that is a bit mashed up from smoking pot but these are people who have smoked an 1/8 everyday for years, eating chocolate everyday has negative effects.

I am all for the persecution of hard drugs li...

I am all for the persecution of hard drugs like cocaine and heroin that are harmful and highly addictive but with dope you may as well be trying to make aspirin illegal.

It has been proved that prohibition doesn't work, legalise it, tax it.

harmful highly addictive dope aspirin illegal prohibition work legalise tax

I believe more needs to be done for the medical use. If it helps some people what's the problem? It's because the drug companies can't rake you over the coals if you can get else where. Or grow your own. Now here where I live medical use is legal at the state level, people drug companies rake coals grow live medical legal level but not at the federal level? Huh? That makes now sense. So you can get a Rx to use it, then get arrested for having it or growing it for your own use. That's really stupid. Legalize it and regulate it. But it is a cash crop that we could use. Recreational use to a point I guess, but boy I have seen and heard of some really stupid stoners! And it's much stronger than when I use to sample it. I'm not saying I didn't do some stupid things too though.
