I don't know about all time. I can only answer for my lifetime, and I'll give you two. The two politicians that made the most positive consequence in my life are Ronald Reagan as president and Rudy Guilliani as mayor of New York City.

consequence life ronald reagan president rudy guilliani mayor york city

    Definition of POLITICIAN

    1
: a person experienced in the art or science of government; especially : one actively engaged in conducting the business of a government
    2
a : a person engaged in party politics as a profession
b : a person primarily interested in political office for selfish or other narrow usually short-sighted reasons

Assuming you're looking for a U.S. Politician, and focusing on the positive rather than the negative connotations which this word can carry in today's culture, I would have to say that to this day, the greatest U.S. Politician, based on character, strength of conviction, exercise of the office with respect etc. would still have to be Abraham Lincoln in my opinion. Followed closely by George Washington, John Adams, and Theodore Roosevelt.

In my lifetime I've got to go with Ronald Ragan. Even with a Dem congress he could go right to the people and talk them into anything. 2nd would have to be Clinton. I just had the feeling in him that he knew what he wanted but didn't know what to do with it when he got it. That was OK because Hilly did,

In recent times - probably Bill Clinton was/is the best politician - they did not call him Slick Willy for nothing. Before him Reagan; before him Teddy Roosevelt

These guys could make people like them with little or no effort.

Check out your definition of what an effective politician is - didn't ask you necessarily about his dedication to marital vows which is definitely not part of being a great politician

If he broke marital vows.He didn't give a dam about his own family.Do you think he cared about this country? He would have sold anyone down the river, not to be caught.

To break marital vows,is not a good person.Being honest is.

I agree and I have not and hopefully will not ever... My point is that it seems to me that you've simplified this to a yes/no answer where anybody who commits infidelity is somehow the worst person ever... I've had lots of friends who make this stupid selfish mistake but it's like a lot of other stupid things that we as fragile mortals do...it's a mistake and hopefully you learn from it...This is not murder or rape or larceny...It's people making a big stupid hurtful mistake that usually hurts them as much if not more than their partner... I guess I just bristled at the judgmental tone you seemed to attach.
