253.Obama Wants to Control the Internet! - 4/6/9 Team Obama proposes the Office of National Cybersecurity Advisor, an arm of Obama’s executive branch, that would have vast power to monitor and control Internet traffic to “protect against threats to critical cyber infrastructure.” That is “rattling some civil libertarians,” says the Obama File. “The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 (.pdf) gives the president the ability to “declare a cybersecurity emergency” and shut down or limit Internet traffic in any “critical” information network “in the interest of national security.” The bill does not define a critical information network or a cybersecurity emergency. That definition would be left to Obama. The bill also grants the Secretary of Commerce “access to all relevant data concerning [critical] networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule, or policy restricting such access.” This means he or she can monitor or access any data on private or public networks without regard to privacy laws. Drino Olympia Snowe is helping Obama (again) with the bill. Leslie Harris of the Center for Democracy and Technology; “Such a drastic federal intervention in private communications technology and networks could harm both security and privacy.”

Stephen Clark at Fox News reports: When Johnsen was a lawyer for the National Abortion ‘Rights’ Action League, she cited a footnote that said forcing women to bear children was “disturbingly suggestive of involuntary servitude, prohibited by the 13th Amendment, in that forced pregnancy requires a woman to provide continuous physical service to the fetus in order to further the state’s asserted interest.” Wimpy republicans might (don’t hold your breath) actually try to fight this confirmation. Johnsen said she merely suggested “an analogy” (!!!) in the footnote and “never believed the 13th Amendment had any role” in the abortion issue! Solid bull from a solid liberbull. I remember the campaign promises about getting out of Iraq, but I don’t remember the campaign talk about stepping up the war in Afghanistan. Must just be my memory.

Presumably, this is what nowadays passes for moderate Muslims. (Oh by the way, at almost the exact moment the show with Mogahed was being made, Hizb ut Tahrir was leading violent riots in east Jerusalem over a false claim that Jews were assaulting holy places on the Temple Mount.) During the broadcast, she described her White House role as “to convey… to the President and other public officials what it is Muslims want.” The problem here is that–based on her interview and statements elsewhere–she apparently thinks that most Muslims want Sharia law to apply at least over themselves in the United States. That’s pretty shocking. Clearly, the problem is that in defining “Muslims” she is not backing those few who are courageously advocating a moderate, reformed Islam but those who hold radical Islamist views. She might mean that most Muslims don’t correctly understand their own religion because, for example, they believe that any Muslim who wants to change religions should be killed. But Mogahed is certainly not campaigning against these interpretations. Under any previous criteria, Mogahed should resign right now. But she won’t and no one will ask her to do so.”

284.Obama’s “Outrageous Sin Against our Kids!” - 4/20/9 Liberal NPR Radio Host Juan Williams called it that! He writes: “But last week (Education) Secretary (Arne) Duncan announced that he will not allow any new students to enter the D.C. voucher program. In fact, he had to take back the government’s offer of scholarships to 200 students who had won a lottery to get into the program starting next year. His rationale is that if the program does not win new funding from Congress then those students might have to go back to public school in a year…With no living, breathing students profiting from the program to give it a face and stand and defend it the Congress has little political pressure to put new money into the program. The political pressure will be coming exclusively from the teacher’s unions who oppose the vouchers, just as they oppose No Child Left Behind and charter schools and every other effort at reforming public schools that continue to fail the nation’s most vulnerable young people, low income blacks and Hispanics. The National Education Association and other teachers’ unions have put millions into Democrats’ congressional campaigns because they oppose Republican efforts to challenge unions on their resistance to school reform and specifically their refusal to support ideas such as performance-based pay for teachers who raise students’ test scores…This reckless dismantling of the D.C. voucher program does not bode well for arguments to come about standards in the effort to reauthorize No Child Left Behind. It does not speak well of the promise of President Obama to be the “Education President,’ who once seemed primed to stand up for all children who want to learn and especially minority children. And its time for all of us to get outraged about this sin against our children.” Wow…this liberal commentator obviously IS outraged. (Scary that I just agreed with a liberal!) Obama’s kids go to private schools and two of the poor minority kids he is kicking out of school are classmates of his daughters. 285.Obama’s Speedy Flip-Flop on CIA Prosecution! - 4/21/9 - President Obama when CIA interrogation memos were released: “I prohibited the use of these interrogation techniques…because they undermine our moral authority and do not make us safer. It is our intention to assure those who carried out their duties relying in good faith upon legal advice from the Department of Justice that they will not be subject to prosecution…because of their sacrifices, every single American is safer. We must…provide them with the confidence that they can do their jobs.” Sooooooo, at the same time the President said we’re not safer AND we are safer, he also said he is not in favor of releasing secret memos but he released the secret memos. Following this? Caving to pressure from liberal democrat-socialists, Obama now opened the door to prosecution for some: “With respect to those who formulate those legal decisions, I would say that that is going to be more of a decision for the attorney general within the parameters of various laws, and I don’t want to prejudge that. … There are a host of very complicated issues involved there.” Things do get very complicated when you play both sides of the issue! Next, he repeated his claim that prosecuting Bush officials could get politicized, then flipped and said he would be open to those prosecutions if they were “bipartisan.” Clearly that is not possible. From Fox: “White House Press Secretary Gibbs and Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel indicated over the past two days that the president did not favor opening the memos’ authors to charges. Gibbs deflected the suggestion that the president was responding to pressure from the left to support prosecutions” because now he does favor opening them to charges. This president tries to be on both sides of every issue…at the same time!

286.Obama Abandons Black Farmers! - 4/21/9 Fox News: “Senator Barack Obama led the charge last year to pass a bill allowing black farmers to seek new discrimination claims against the Agriculture Department. Now he is president, and his administration so far is acting like it wants the potentially budget-busting lawsuits to go away. The change isn’t sitting well with black farmers who thought they’d get a friendlier reception from Obama after years of resistance from President George W. Bush. “You can’t blame it on the Bush administration anymore,” said John Boyd, head of the National Black Farmers Association, which has organized the lawsuits. “I can’t figure out for the life of me why the president wouldn’t want to implement a bill that he fought for as a U.S. senator.”

287.Obama’s Interrogation Techniques Lie! - 4/21/9 On the very same day the President said tough CIA interrogation methods do not make us safer, his national intelligence director told him they did make us safer. 4/16/9 Obama: “In one of my very first acts as President, I prohibited the use of these interrogation techniques by the United States because they undermine our moral authority and do not make us safer.” 4/21/9 New York Times: “High value information came from interrogations in which those methods were used and provided a deeper understanding of the al Qa’ida organization that was attacking this country…I do not fault those who made the decisions at that time, and I will absolutely defend those who carried out the interrogations within the orders they were given,” Adm. Dennis C. Blair, the intelligence director, wrote in a memo to his staff.” Admiral Blair’s assessment that the interrogation methods did produce important information was deleted from a condensed version of his memo released to the media. So, President Obama knew the methods did keep us safer when he told the nation they did “not make us safer.” That’s a lie in my book.

Obama flip-flop - 4/21/9 William McGurn at the Wall Street Journal notes the contrast between Obama the candidate who said there should be a “rejection of the Bush administration’s attempt to create a legal black hole at Guantanamo” and Obama the President who now has his own “legal black hole” at Bagram Air Force Base in Iraq. On the senate floor in 2006 Obama said “I do not want to hear that this is a new world and we face a new kind of enemy.” Mr. McGurn quotes a Glenn Greenwald, a former constitutional law litigator, who said “These actions — these contradictions between what he said and what he is doing, the embrace of the very powers that caused so much anger towards Bush/Cheney — are so blatant, so transparent, so extreme, that the only way to avoid noticing them is to purposely shut your eyes as tightly as possible and resolve that you don’t want to see it, or that you’re so convinced of his intrinsic Goodness that you’ll just believe that even when it seems like he’s doing bad things, he must really be doing them for the Good.”

The same day Obama said they did not work and did not keep us safer. Blair had also written: “Those methods, read on a bright, sunny, safe day in April 2009, appear graphic and disturbing. I like to think I would not have approved those methods in the past, but I do not fault those who made the decisions at that time, and I will absolutely defend those who carried out the interrogations within the orders they were given.” After likely being scolded for admitting the methods worked and saved lives, Fox reports Blair had to do a flip-flop: “He later issued a statement saying the techniques are not needed to keep Americans safe and that the information gleaned using them “was valuable in some instances, but there is no way of knowing whether the same information could have been obtained through other means.”
