President Obama's $825,000,000,000 package passed the House of Representatives with a 244-188 vote, giving the president a large majority. However, not a single Republican voted for it and 11 Democrats voted with Republicans against the measure. President Obama spent time on Capitol Hill days before trying to get Republican votes.

    What exactly is in this so-called stimulus bill?

    $1.1 billion for Amtrak;

    $50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts;

    $400 million for NASA to conduct climate change research;

    $300 million for Americorps;

    $1 billion for the Census;

    $400 million for localities to buy "green" buses;

    $650 million for the Digital-to-Analog Converter Box Program;

    $600 million for the acquisition of "green" cars;

    $7.7 billion for the Federal Buildings Fund;

    F@ck you very much Obama

    the important part is that "bi partisin" actualy means that everyone should do what he says when he says it. as long as no one disagrees with him then everyone is one big happy family. good to see that he is true to his party though and not makeing deals with the evil baby eating republicans....
    oh and what is up with him back on the campain trail AND threatening to not run again if they did pass it? shouldnt he, i dont know, be trying to work with people to pass a bill that everyone can agree on? not just ramming his ideas through?

    Given the convoluted route to get this passed I suspect that three Republicans were "allowed" to vote for the bill. In spite of what most other people here seem to think, I'm still of the opinion that failure to pass the bill would have been worse for the country than passing it. I suspect many Republican lawmakers felt the same way but for political reasons refrained from doing so, especially in the House where passage by the Democratic majority was assured. Talk about deals in smoke-filled rooms...

    about 40 minutes in he mentions the republican opinion of "pork" in this bill and answers the question beautiful. i don´t understand what the problem is.

    if we are going to spend this much money, we need to spend it on the things that will have a long term effect, so we can have long term jobs. what´s so hard to understand about that?

    President Obama has the right idea.But he's going about it all wrong.
    What good does it do to give these auto manufactures all this money so they can
    make new cars,when nobody can afford to buy them.He should put that money where it would do the most good.
    Put it back into the hands of the people.If we had the money to buy things that we needed or wanted,the economy would get the jump start that it needs.
    If he gave that money to the people there wouldn't be so many homes in foreclosure,the building industry would pick up because people would be able to make the repairs or up grades that are needed on thier homes and some of us would be able to afford to buy new homes and cars,take vacations,go out to eat more often and do the other things that we would like to do.
    So Mr. President please get with the program.If you want to bailout these companies
    put the money in the hands of those who are able to make that happen.

    He does not understand Finances and he sure doesn't understand how to cut spending. He had many opportunities as a Senator to cut bad programs on bills that had already proved wasteful by the measurement rule that is used and yet the Democrats sill voted no they didn't want to save the Billions of Dollars. One bill alone was 17 Billion last year. That's just irresponsible. That's beyond parties...that's plain irresponsibility. That's what this stimulus package is. They are trying to use scare tactics and say the sky is falling but yet are slipping things into this bill that not only will cost billions but there is no accountability.

    Why are the American people buying everyone else's cable box because they have an old TV? It's only $40.00....that's just part of life.

    Why is the American public responsible for Bee Insurance...that's the farmers responsibility to buy their insurance....not us. Where is the accountability. Who is going to audit that this money honestly goes for Bee insurance. I bet one farmer will get a dime of insurance and the money will have been swept into a secret program they have all picked out and they need to find a legal way to skim it out of the budget.

    Why is the Census in this Stimulus. It should be in it's own appropriations bill. It's not stimulating new jobs, it's not a new budget....this has been happening since the beginning of our country. These jobs are temporary and most only lasting 5 weeks....we have already signed up to work the census and we have already taken and passed the exam. The jobs are part time and they are only for a short time. It may more damage for those that are lured into leaving their unemployment for a job that only lasts a few weeks and then have a hard time getting back on unemployment again as they have to refile all over again and there is no Unemployment for the Census...we sign knowing that on the part time positions.

    The infrastructure jobs will take years to ever get off the ground. The time it takes to get a project through appropriations, planning, surveys, legislation and all the other work we won't see any of that work for a long while. If those items are already in place then why was there a stimulus as those items were close to be enacted anyway.

    What most don't realize this isn't a 800 Billion dollar bailout it's a 1.2 -1.3 Trillion dollar Bailout just because of the Billions and Billions in Interest....that's interest to foreign counties.
    We also can not let the treasury borrow the money from Sharia Banking. The treasury has already gone for Training in Sharia Banking in November and it's a dangerous act if they dare sign a loan. England has been suffering greatly since they took the loan. I have close friends in Politics in Parliament and they are frightened at what's happening over there. I have personally seen the changes and we can not let this happen. The warning signs are there and we have to be smart enough to beware of them.

    Why the restrictions on facilities a prayer room in the building. Our country needs prayer more than ever. Do I dare not pay my taxes because of the garbage they keep wasting "OUR" money on.

    This is not a Stimulus bill this is a rob you blind and we need to fool you with a whole bunch of hidden secrets behind the scenes Bill so sign fast and don't dare read it.
    It takes hours just to print it out. That along is sick....

    We didn't die when they told us the sky was falling on the 1st stimulus bill and the money seems to have disappeared and instead this bill they are just showing us where the money is disappearing to...wasted never to be seen again.

    It's time to tighten the belts and if you got yourself in debt...that's hard times but the whole nation should have to go further into debt forever to pay for it. The debt doesn't go away...just like they did with all the housing loans they are just trying to make the good people that were paying their bills and taxes pay for those that got over extended.

    He may shove it down our throats...and this is one mistake that will cost our country for generations...The media sold Obama as the King of Kings..He has already shown what most na sayers already knew. ALL MOUTH WITH NO SUBSTANCE !! How can a man run for President...and we never knew nothing about him..except he didn't like the war in Iraq...I just can't believe that people went for his "HOPE" and "CHANGE" garbage. I feel so bad for our proud country. One day, they will decide to hold him accountable for not being born in the United States Of America. Stumulus Package will be the first major mistake...and very well might be the biggest mistake ever made by a President elected to office. We are just seeing the first of many mistakes that will change America forever. We won't be able to FIX what he screws up..starting with this outrages Spending Bill of $825,000,000,000 (with interest 1,250,000,000,000 that's a trillion folks). change america fix screws starting outrages spending 825000000000 1250000000000 folks

    Perfect example of how manipulative Nazi Pelosi is. Only 11 dems dared cross her but it appears the better part of the Senate is joining them and ALL of the House republicans in showing they have a "pair" ... you know what I mean ... and showing some sanity.

    It reflects on a brilliant man's ignorance and stupidity. A high IQ does not intelligence make, however it can be well used to make one better if that person so chooses to use it. Obama doesn't know a thing about running a business - and neither did George Bush. If Bush did, he would have let the companies that were bailed out - go under - just like any other business in America does when they have poor management and make bad business decisions.
    Enron is an excellent example of that! They cheated and lied to their stockholders, and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac did the same thing. They should have been allowed to go down!
    How many millionnaires have lost and re-earned their fortunes in a lifetime? Who bailed them out? They did themselves, because they learned how to manage money, and changed their mistakes into right management.
    If you make good business decisions, even if they are hard ones, people will respond in kind when they see the good of what is being done. Obama has chosen to follow in the very same steps of failure that were taken in the 30's, and it will lead us down the primrose path to depression all over again!
    Blast bi-partisan support! And blast partisan support. What we needed was a leader, and we got a flunky with a high IQ and an over-inflated ego instead.
    Just watch and wait, and see how many other unintelligent decisions he makes for us!

    This Bill was written by the House, by Pelosi,Reed and the Democrats and it is one of the ugliest ever produced by an American legislature.

    It has got pork. It is a 40-year wish list. It has all the stuff that you heard about. It's novel length -- a late Norman Mailer novel long. You throw a dart at it and you will have on any page six items which are outrageous.

    Now, what's ironic about all this is that Obama ran as the man who would redo our politics, who would eliminate the lobbying and the special interests and the earmarks.

    This is the largest earmark bill - earmark, but without stealth, just out in the open -- of special interests, favors, parochial interests, in American history.

    And so,It is under his aegis.And endorsed by Him and pushed hard upon America by him..
    So if it passes it will show that all he has said during his campaign was...

    Simply Empty Rhetoric by a Empty Suit...

    It would seem to me when we are already so in debt.....inherited from the last administration, that the Democrats wouldn't pass a 4 year wish list spending bill, just because they can. I would like to see the essentials to get the economy going, and later get some of those wish/list liberal projects funded. If it is indeed an emergency then the congress should deal with the EMERGENCY. When we get back on track, we can start on the goodies. I mean, I like Masterpiece Theater as much as anyone, but this is not the time.

    Well, there are some things I believe the government should do like fund the performing arts and PBS. It is part of our cultural heritage that needs promoting. And those honeybees? I don't know how that was worded and what the intent of the funding was, but the bees have been disappearing, and we need them for pollination of our food crops. I have two cherry trees that did not produce any fruit last year, and my neighbor has a nectarine which was barren. I am sure this has happened around the country........so it is important to prevent the bees from dying out.....I just don't know what the intent of the money in this bill was. When our economy is good we can afford to support the arts and PBS, which for many of us living outside NY or a big city, is our only source of culture........I have lived in both NYC, Chicago and Seattle, and now being in a small town/country setting, I miss it.
